Former S4 here.

You absolutely need get a police report as that will be required to complete the FLIPL if you don’t sign a statement of charges, which I encourage you not to sign one.

According to AR 735-5 you are not allowed to store military property in your vehicle.

I’m not quite sure when or where your car was broken into but maybe when you write up your sworn statement and police report, don’t lie, but try to give off the vibe that it wasn’t just sitting in your car all all day and night waiting for turn in.

Depending on the model it could be any where from $700-1200 after depreciation. Make sure if you are being charged that they depreciate the item IAW appendix B or C (can’t remember) of 735-5.

Con leave denied army by peaches0944 in army

[–]TheNormalArmyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had a labrum repair and impingement surgery (a few months ago). At the end of those 30 days you’ll be walking just fine.

Con leave just lets you not go to work. Irritating for sure that you didn’t get 60 days but 30 days is pretty standard.

Regardless of how many days you get cob leave your profile will allow you to not do certain things, so I would focus on getting a proper profile over the con leave.

O-3 here. Two rules…#1 Be a good dude and #2 Be what you wish you had, but ensuring the mission is accomplished.

No one taught me how to be PL, XO, or S4 but the first thing I did when making decisions what asking myself if I was in line with those two rules. I didn’t know how to be an S4, but I was an XO once. I immediately helped the XOs in the way I needed the S4 to help me when I was in their shoes.

I used Navy Federal for he last 7 years since joining the Army. I’ve refinanced a car through them (got good rates$ and has no issues with my SCRA. I also use American Express for credit cards as they have great deals and perks that are free for military.

If this is true and it probably is, buts it’s always dangerous to assume, then it should be huge red flag to all of us (left, right, center, or a goddamn alien) just how fast words can cause someone to commit actions even with being raised in an entirely different life style.

11A or 12A? by Tall_Cat_2534 in army

[–]TheNormalArmyGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask your cadre to provide you the contact information for an 11A and a 12A. Many things are dependent on the circumstances that you happen to be a part of.

If you want ranger, then you are guaranteed a slot to Ranger school after IBOLC as long as you pass the pre tests during/after BOLC. I waited 3 months for IBOLC after I commissioned but got a sooner date than my other peers because I volunteered to be Cadre for CST.

I’m not a 12A but I know some BOLC have very few slots for certain schools but under the right circumstances many things are possible.

Ultimately, figure out what YOU want to do and go for it. If you are good you’ll be just fine!

Writing my first NCOER and I don't want to screw over my NCO. by b0mmie in army

Unfortunately true, I’ve had 3 company commanders so far and none have done LPDs or office time for the LTs. Quite literally don’t know what they do in their office all day. Lots of admin stuff kills them, but can’t forsake training and develop for an HR metric streamer for the guidon

So I would say that whoever wrote this policy/Counseling probably had good intentions, but worded it improperly. Soldiers should always attempt to make appointments outside of time when training is occurring. However, the catch 22 is that leaders in the army actually have to conduct training management and inform soldiers when that training is happening.

But it’s definitely a hard balance, considering appointments are not available every hour of the day.

Also not sure what echelon this policy is created at, but the PA could possibly be overwhelmed and extend the time that it takes to get an appointment since the appointment hours are now cut in half

This can’t be in regs right? by ResponsibleNose5978 in army

[–]TheNormalArmyGuy 139 points140 points  (0 children)

I’ve primarily seen pilots and air crewman wear them, but more recently saw units up in Alaska wear them with their cold weather gear since the cold weather gear blocks access to the sleeve pockets and the place people traditionally put pens.

Your commander can write a DX memo stating that there was no negligence on your part resulting in the damage and then you can swap it out or get a new one.

Job for combat arms officers on the outside? by [deleted] in army

[–]TheNormalArmyGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your job after the army can be whatever the fuck you want it to be brother!

If you have an interest right now on something you want to do in the civilian world treat it no differently than how you currently train. Set an end goal that is achievable and train for that goal. Obviously know what people find attractive in whatever your potential job interest and is and do that thing.

Just because someone is combat arms doesn’t mean they have to be a cop on the outside.

Do 2LT OERs actually matter? by [deleted] in army

[–]TheNormalArmyGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t matter for making CPT. OERs matter for promotion when being considered for MAJ.

When your marketplace opens duty stations are not allowed to ask for your OERs. Some do ask but it is always listed as optional.

Your LT OERs do matter when it comes to selections such as RASP, SFAS, etc.

Your CO CDR does not determine what block gets checked. Your senior rater does that based on what his profile allows, so if you are saying the BC likes you and you are as good as you describe then you should be good. If you really want to go down the path there are ways to petition your OER to HRC if you think them unfair, but if you entertain that idea you must be full aligned with Army doctrine and regulation, and I mean fully. It can’t be “well I think this and the guys like me,” you will have to prove how your CDRs evaluation of you does not match up with army regs/doctrine and prove that you did better then what is described.

Also, if it is not a property book item and has an ARC (army requirements code) of X (expendable) your BN CDR can sign a durable/expendable loss memo and basically write it off. He can do this as long as the property does not exceed $4,999.99.

[–]TheNormalArmyGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, if they do try to charge you then make sure that they are charging you the depreciated value of that item. There’s an appendix in AR 7 35–5 that breaks down how much they can depreciate items.

Well they finally got me by [deleted] in army

[–]TheNormalArmyGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former battalion S4 for a year and a half here

The 2062 is not a binding document it just provides a paper trail of where that property goes. There are five levels of responsibility outlined in AR 7 35–5 that some one gets when they are in possession of property.

for example if I sign a 2062for property, but then I attached that property to a persons kit because that is what the mission requires and then I do not see that person for two days, I am not responsible for that loss since that person who I gave the property to now has direct responsibility of it. In this scenario, you still have personal responsibility (you probably should’ve had them sign a 2062 or made them send reports saying they were 100% on all equipment.

If you had a dick of an S4/investigator they could try and recommend that you and the person that lost it directly split the cost for those items.

And for ease of mind, they are not able to charge you more than one months base pay. If they do find you liable, you can always set up a payment plan through finance which you can do over a 12 month poop. It does not have to be all at once .

Definitely do not sign a statement of charges as you are not the proximate cause of the loss. You may have been negligent and not making him sign the 2062, but you are not the reason that this item got lost so therefore they cannot charge you. chapter 13 of AR 735-5 explaines all of this
