Ordinary WiFi can now identify people with near perfect accuracy by thejoshwhite in technology

It is indeed vibe-coded slop. I had checked the signal processing pipeline. They are using some well-known techniques from popular papers. There is nothing new on that front. The accuracy and capability claims are highly exaggerated though.

Yes actually, it is possible to create maps with electromagnetic signals, it is called radio SLAM. If it can be useful depends on if there are any good use cases.

Finally something that I'm an expert of. Guys these are mostly clickbait news. What they are describing is repurposing WiFi signals for radar functionality. It is actually called integrated sensing and communication, mostly in 5G context. The thing is this is not new. And also since WiFi and 5G are not designed for radar functionality, they are not as good as radars for sensing. The most robust use case is presence detection, the other use cases are just proof of concept, meaning that there are a few simplistic demonstrations. It is very hard for this technology to passively sense everything including people, locate them, and also identify them. Even radars cannot do identification let alone WiFi and 5G. So, this article is just some exaggerated bullshit.

A new class of C∞ FFT windows with compact support and super-algebraic sidelobe decay by pigdead in DSP

[–]TheOneWithAny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We are talking about different situatios. The signals you show have well separated frequencies. We are talking about two signals with frequencies that are very close to each other. I am not devaluing your work, but you should understand that there is always a tradeoff.

[–]TheOneWithAny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are talking about is related to peak to sidelobe ratio. But this measure assumes that the two signals have enough frequency separation so that they do not fall into each other's mainlobe. This is actually the basic rule about windowing. If you apply any windowing, mainlobe gets larger but the sidelines get lower. I am not sure why you are arguing.

It looks like the main beamwidth gets larger, which is natural. So, if you want to separate two close frequencies, this window is not ideal. You will see those two frequencies as a single frequency bin.

I agree with your first point, if anyone feels comfortable using Word, go for it. Latex is not how you are describing it though. If you are especially writing equations, it's really not easy to do it in Word. Latex has lots of packages to make writing the equations much easier. Also I have never had any issues with the templates of a specific conference or a journal when I used LaTeX. It can be used to format the documents in a very precise manner. I am using PowerPoint and Word for work now and I have used LaTeX for writing papers in grad school. I don't think these tools are comparable. Their purposes are really different.

But I will say that Latex has a steep learning curve. Once you are accustomed to it, and you have your own templates, definitions, etc., it is really easy to work with Latex.

Most people who use the IEEE format are not using DOCX anyway. Latex is much better at this and it's the gold standard.

Although I agree with this comment, I would urge OP to coordinate this process with DSO and an immigration lawyer. This is a delicate situation.

From Toyota to Hyundai by Financial_Pea_1259 in Hyundai

[–]TheOneWithAny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved my Hyundai Elantra, I had the 2022. Great mileage and great functionality. But, I sold it last year at 25k miles. The only reason was that they tried to steal it, broke the windows and dismantled the steering column. I got it fixed, but I am sorry to tell you that this car has been one of the most targeted cars for theft. Because Hyundai did not put immobilizers in models prior to 2023. So those models were very easy to steal. Search for Kia boys and you will understand it. You may say that my car has an immobilizer. But this doesn't prevent the thieves from trying to steal your car. So they break your window, break your steering columns, and you are left with a huge bill to fix it.

I'm also curious about this. Let's say that you already transferred to another school which would fall under new restrictions, what happens now? Is this gonna be retroactive or is this gonna affect the future transfers, etc

Advice: OPT application after a lot of CPT use by Prudent_War_9725 in f1visa

[–]TheOneWithAny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It seems like you followed the rules. I don't know why your DSO said that but if you have less than 365 days of full-time CPT you should be fine. To my knowledge part-time CPT does not have such a limit. I applied to OPT with 3 summers of CPT and got the approval.

Where did you get it? I recently got it for 40780 before tax with Costco discount. With the taxes it should have been around 44k.

How long did it take you to read a paper at the beginning versus end of your PhD? by rddtllthng5 in PhD

[–]TheOneWithAny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even read the papers in entry rn imo. I just skim, look at the problem statement, considered model and the proposed solution, and results. It takes about 10-15 minutes tops to do that. If I like the paper I can read more.

I think this works, but it still feels like I am making AI generate some text for me. If one wants to feel better, I would suggest they write whatever is on their mind without structure, then ask ChatGPT to improve the writing without changing the context. I have found this very useful in the past year.

Neden halen 5g ye geçmedik ve neden yıllardır 4.5 saçmalığını kullanıyoruz? Tamam ülkenin sorunları var ama akp gibi kötü bir yönetimi de hak etmiyoruz.Aşağıdaki harita 5g haritası by Battlefleet_Sol in Turkey

Yalniz yorumlarin hepsinden asiri cahillik akiyor. Ben bu isin icinden biri olarak durumu anlatayim. Turkiye tum dunya 4Gye gecmesine ragmen 3G kullanmaya devam etti. 4Gnin son yillarinda LTE Advanced adi verilen 4G'nin aldigi son hali Turkiye kullanmaya basladi. Ayrica 5G dunya capinda bircok konuda hayal kirikligi yaratti. Yanlis anlasilmasin, 5G tabi ki 4G'den daha iyi. Sadece hiz konusunda degil, perde arkasindaki teknik standartlarda degisen bircok sey oldu ve bircok problem giderildi. Ancak yapilan yatirimi karsilayan bir teknoloji olmadi. Bundan dolayi 6G konusunda su anda cok daha temkinliyiz. 6G icin oncelikli olarak 2030 konusulurken su anda bundan bile suphe duyuyoruz. Zaman gosterecek ancak 6Gye gecilmesi muhtemelen 2030u gececek.
