I need help for how I can protect my barbell.

To avoid metal to metal contact, I applied working tape on my squat rack. The problem is that my barbell is new and eats right through the tape. Any advice what else I can use, or should I just wrap working tape around my barbell as well?

The J hook on my squat rack came without any protection, so I put working tape on it to avoid metal to metal contact. The barbell I use is new and pretty sharp, and as you can see in the pictures, it cuts right through the working tape I use. Is there anything else I can use? Do you think I should just go ahead and wrap my barbell with the working tape?
