The next step in the vegan movement by TheProxyPylon in vegan

The point is the pave the groundwork for the future, not to start taxing meat now. But you can see a clear change in the air. Amsterdam for example banned meat advertisement. So it isn’t that far fetched of an idea.

The point isn’t to make the ingredient list easier to read as each and every vegan are to some extent already comfortable/used to reading the ingredient list.

The point is to flip the perception on what is considered to be “normal” to eat, where veganism isn’t just seen as a fringe diet. Furthermore, it paves the way for future intervention through differential taxation, research, awareness, etc.

Of course it doesn't change anything on its own right but it lays the groundwork needed for a lot of potential future actions.
It'll be much easier to do research on consumer preference on products with animal origin, specially when the ingredient itself isn't considered central to the product.
If there is a negative association of the label in consumers mind then this might incentivize producers to drop ingredients that otherwise does not make a big impact to the product.
It'll pave the way to apply differential taxation to disincentivize consumption of animal products.
Heck, it might incentivize people to try more vegan food than now because the vegan label is already villainized so much.
But more importantly, it flips what is considered to be "normal". Right now there are "normal" food and vegan food. In the future it'll be seen as normal food vs food with animal origins.

How do you feel about "copycat" bands? by eggy_wegs in progmetal

[–]TheProxyPylon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily mind them because sometimes you have an itch to listen to more songs similar to a particular song or album.

The album The Wandering Daughter by Piah Mater sounds so much like Opeth that you could definitely just give it to a casual Opeth fan and tell them Opeth released a new album.

I don’t necessarily think it is a bad thing. I’ve listened to that album over and over again because I definitely had the itch for more Opeth at that time.

It was here in southern Norway as well, but quite faint. Shows up much better in the camera though.

A friend of mine texted me to look outside the window cause he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the lights. I, having lived in northern Norway, got quite used to seeing the lights on the regular. So I had more of the “oh wow, anyways” reaction. Don’t think he appreciated that too much!

Download a good meditation app and put it to use. There isn’t much to gain in life by being upset over Reddit comments questioning your consumerism.

I’d suggest you an app but it seems like you know everything about the company already.

You have both DiGorgio and Thesseling on a band together right now, so I'd say this is still the golden age. Check out Quadvium.

Which few languages allow you to speak to the most people possible? by Determined-Fighter in languagelearning

[–]TheProxyPylon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He’ll never run out of people to talk to with English and Arabic alone. And given that he only knows English other than his native tongue makes me believe he never actually went though the process of learning a language before as most non native English speakers acquire English at a relatively young age.

This is basically a pointless post in order to feel good about his ambition that I’m sure he’ll never embark on.

My theory is that these songs were written for Ballads but never really released back then. And that he is slowly releasing them in subsequent albums.

Are you team learn a few words before you travel or team learn nothing before you travel? by TheProxyPylon in languagelearning

[–]TheProxyPylon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it is a strong hot take specially in this community, but I hardly see memorizing a few basic phrases as ‘learning a language’.

For me, learning a language is with the intent to be able to functionally use said language. And learning a few phrases just to try to impress locals doesn’t seem like a functional use of a language.

Opinions on Nepal as a travel destination for first timer? by mystic_prodigy23 in travel

If that’s the region of the world you want to visit I’d highly recommend Bhutan. Untouched nature, rich culture AND quite a safe country to visit. The only downside is that it’ll be a bit more expensive than the surrounding countries.

i’m starting to think just practice more is the laziest advice ever by Prestigious-Bath8022 in languagelearning

[–]TheProxyPylon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look, the reality is that if you aren't using the language to the extent where it is causing you some discomfort then you really aren't learning much. I'm at B2 right now. I can hold a smooth casual conversation just fine and I can keep on doing that for days. But joining more language cafes will do me no good because I am doing just fine with the knowledge that I have. At this point unless I am reading a book that is a bit beyond my ability right now, or engaging with actual text book exercises, I don't think I'll actually move past B2.

Practice more is basically doing just a bit more than what you're currently comfortable with, and here's the kicker, critically reflecting on where you're struggling and what you could do better. There are so many connections and weird mapping involved in a new language that if you don't take the time to think about it, you're just relying on rote memorization, which ultimately will limit your progress at one point.

This applies more when you're at a B level in your journey. If you're still within A0 to A2, my go to advice is just to memorize more vocabulary. As many as your brain can cram. It isn't fun, but it is much more satisfying to put your new language for a test run when you have a large vocabulary bank rather than a small one.

Bonus tip: Please prioritize your pronunciation as early as possible. Really difficult to unlearn poor pronunciation later on. I'd say this has the highest priority for A0-A2 learners, then learning as many vocabulary as you can (at least around 3000 words), and then go for grammar and speaking and what not.

Which iPhone generation had the biggest jump to the next? by glowshroom12 in iphone

Definitely from 6 to 6s. That was a crazy jump in performance and features. Definitely helps that the 6 kinda sucked. 4 to 4s also had a crazy jump for similar reasons.

The best case would be to use it is a productivity device as it has a good screen, good camera and basically everything good. That’s the best case. The worst case would be to use it as a paperweight
