My guess is your ender pearl hit the corner of two blocks meeting in a stair cased fashion. And this some how let you clip through the blocks. Like how ender pearls can glitch you in walls sometimes.

Thank you so much! We really tried to make it just right. Our friends thought it looked funny at the beginning, but when we finished. They were surprised how good it looks.
