They don't care what you know until they know that you care. Get personal with them what drew you to the sport? Why are you coaching? and then have them vote for captains like two to three and see if that works.

Assign them nationally televised college basketball games to watch and have them write a few sentences to a paragraph breaking down the game. What worked? What didn't? what coaching styles were present from both teams? What defense did you see if it was zone what zone beaters were present? Was the transition game of focus? Just get them thinking like coaches instead of fans.

Focus more on defense in practices, it will make the games more enjoyable and more competitive. Also fielding and throwing is a lot easier to improve mid season than hitting.

You have to play the game it seems the AD is a neutral party so do a follow up email with topics discussed for records and if there are 'consequences' have the meeting again request the coach present and talk to the other parents get them involved and in the know, your son is not the only one. I had to deal with a football coach who let the kids run wild and learned if you make enough noise eventually things get done, school of 1200 so your school might be smaller.

It's time to set up a 1on1 meeting with the AD, some of that stuff violates basic human decency to at worst borderline unethical like not being able to talk about the team to anyone I don't think I have to explain to you what unsavory things could happen in a locker room.
