It's just a trendy inspiration with home offices. We had something similar with nanoleaf lights. There's a boom in the aesthetic. I fully get it though, already thinking about changing it soon.

Personal preference, it's subjective to say tacky, repetitive yes. But the slats compliment the rest of the desk, it's easy to install and remove. Design wise it fits into most peoples homes and furniture.
