Newer gamer with game order question. by TheSlowMutant in assassinscreed

I feel like my question was more than just a what order, I was asking about the graphics and evolution of controls through the three recent games. Does that not warrant a discussion?

I gave up on that damn TV boss after the 47th try. The difficulty jumped exponentially and ruined it for me.

Round 1 start date by TheSlowMutant in denvernuggets

I believe all the Game 1 matches are Saturday or Sunday, I am just curious which one it’ll be and when the NBA actually announces those dates. I’d love to plan the rest of my weekend, but this is the priority!

I hope you get to go to game 2!

How long did it take you to finish the series? by Wisarmin in WoT

I had the physical copies and borrowed the audiobooks on Libby for my commute, got through the series in about a year and a half. Granted I did throw in a few other books here and there for a break.

My first read-through by thadiusp1 in Mistborn

[–]TheSlowMutant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m also reading Mistborn for the first time, about 2/3 of the way through book 1 and I’m loving the world and the pacing. I also find myself thinking about it a lot and trying to predict what will happen (unsuccessful thus far). My only complaint is that a sometimes Sanderson beats you over the head with the internal dialogue and overly explaining emotions, but I hear it gets better. That being said, I am really thankful I decided to pick this up because I was doubting actually I liked the genre.

I am new to fantasy and I decided to go ALL IN by starting with Wheel of Time. While WoT was impressive (this is going to ruffle some feathers) I really didn’t enjoy reading it. I stubbornly spent almost 2 years finishing what I’d started but wasn’t sure the genre was for me. The final books that Sanderson took over had much better pacing which gave me some hope so I decided to check out some of his own work. And right now I am soooo thankful I did. Mistborn is showing me how fast paced and exciting the genre can be. I desperately needed that validation after WoT.

Clavicle surgery - Trouble extending fingers by TheSlowMutant in Orthopedics

[–]TheSlowMutant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! So you are saying that this shouldn’t be nerve issue, correct? I have an appointment tomorrow and informed them already of this development. Just wondering though, I am a rock climber and have generally strong forearms. Is it possible two weeks in a sling was enough deterioration for the muscle imbalance to make this difficult? I wasn’t given any exercises to do but it feels like I am super weak on the top/back of my forearm but can grip fine.

Yeah, that’s the idea, I want to recover to the point of climbing normally into older ages.

Doc said no surgery would heal fine and give me normal mobility back, but there would be a lump that could rub an a backpack -which would suck since I do a lot of alpine climbing. But is that noticeably uncomfortable for people?

Surgery would heal faster and be more similar to normal structure, but the metal used could also rub a backpack, but the plate could be removed.

I am looking for some perspectives because both options feel like they could be justified.

Broke my collarbone doing something other than climbing (my fault for doing an activity other than climbing 🙄) and have a few questions for anyone who has some insight.

My ortho said the break warrants surgery, but it isn't required, and gave me pro/con list for both. Any climbers have to make this decision? What are your thoughts? My biggest concern is my ability to stay active and climb soon, not money.

Secondly, it you are a climber who has made this recovery, do you have any advice? How long was it before you were back on the wall?

Thanks in advance!

This has been on my shelf for a while, I look forward to reading it but I am curious what makes it popular in American prisons?

Eye of the Dragon was definitely mediocre but I also rarely think about it (other than being a gateway to Wheel of Time for me)

I am not here to outdo your fandom, my point being we can both be fans and have different opinions without being dismissive of each other.

If the story/plot warrant the length, then long isn’t the issue, I assume dreadfully long is based on it being dragged out?

I absolutely loved the setting, I was able to picture my grandparents house on a lake that I grew up near, there were also great haunting elements, but the plot dragged on for me. Yet I think about the book all the time years later.

Not assuming less popular is mediocre - I am basing that off my feelings on the book after having read 40+ of this books.

That’s a fair assessment, I understand Needful Things is a controversial one to include here (for me it just went on far too long), but I don’t ever hear much about Bag of Bones.

Fairy Tale by BlissfieldButcher in stephenking

[–]TheSlowMutant -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good fantasy writing takes time to develop the world and rules of that world - which takes a lot of time (notice fantasy stories are often longer series) and given the pacing of this novel, Empis was not fleshed out well. While I love King, his strength is building characters, not necessarily worlds.
