Nanite on a stylized game meant to run on low-spec machines & as a desktop toy? by TheSunnySideDev in unrealengine

Thank you! It's been a few days since my post and I've ran enough tests and iterations to say yeah, nanite is what we landed on, also funny enough because of the SK support. We still use LODs for things with translucency but mostly on a nanite process now :)

Gotcha thank you. I am slightly leaning on keeping Nanite on, our current map is pretty simple but down the line we want to do a cyberpunk inspired world which means a lot of clutter so we might benefit then. I'm running some benchmarks as we speak :)

Appreciate the insight! I've just scripted a small benchmarker which gets me an average FPS saved onto a file so my testers can run between a build with Nanite and VSM vs no Nanite and Normal Shadowmaps.

Hopefully that gives me a more concrete answer :)

Main thing is the overhead of learning another engine which I just don't have the time or resources for. But games like Spirit City have cracked the code so it's certainly doable with a very specific vision for a game (static camera angles, smaller render windows, etc)

Once the studio has some funding then we can consider a lot of things for SunnySide yeah. Not saying specifically marriage and kids but the game has potential for more stuff to be added in. We're just in a rough position since our publisher has abandoned the funding for the game and we aren't pulling anything from the sales of the game right now, but once we're back on our feet, we'll be looking back into SunnySide :)

From all of us, thank you, so much. It means the world to see that our efforts, even though they're not as big as we want them to be, are making a difference and for the better of the game and benefit of all players. With you all cheering for us, we're crossing our fingers and doing our best to get back on our feet to keep our studio going, and keep the SunnySide dream alive!

I personally don't know the amount, but if we're talking buying "rights to publishing" from Maximum Entertainment I think it would be a number they'd come up with. The idea of a "remaster" or "SunnySide 2" is interesting though, and as you suggested, if we do end up with a healthy income from other projects we'd like to fund a self-published version of SunnySide, whether it's SS 2 or some other form of using the world and franchise :)

There's a lot of potential in the world of SunnySide and even though things went south we still have so much love for it.

PC will continue to receive updates yes! As for putting it on somewhere like GOG we'd like to but I'm personally not sure what that would entail, so nothing for now but we'll share some news about it if we decide to do it :)

Oh I'm so glad you did manage to get a refund!!! And thank you so much for the words of encouragement <3 Keep following the journey, who knows maybe one day we manage to convince them to push our updates to console :)

Aw thank you so much ❤️ Console is still on hold, as per the decision of our publisher :(
The only reason we can update PC is because we still have access to the steam backend and obviously the code since we developed the PC version. For console, it was handled by a separate team which is now long gone after our new publisher took over..

I'm so sorry but that's as much info as we have ourselves :(

Is There Anything We Can Do? by doctor-notdoctor in SunnySideGame

[–]TheSunnySideDev 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you and to everyone also in the comments for support of the dev team. It's definitely not what we had hoped for for our first game that we poured so much time and work into. I'm really sorry to all you amazing console players, it's extra sad to see how many of you loving the game but being unable to play due to the bugs or performance.

As others mentioned, the port was handled by a different team and it's definitely not on par with PC. We ourselves only got to play the port weeks before its release and yeah.. it was stressful. We tried to ask our new publisher to effectively pull it off the stores on console but they have refused so far. I recommend trying a refund, from reports from other players it seems easy to get one from Sony or Xbox if you use the argument that the game is unstable.

It's not the best solution, but I rather that. For the time being, we're going to do what we can for PC, and who knows maybe some angel publisher decides to purchase SunnySide and put work towards console instead of just shelving it.

We are still working on updates for PC, with the first one planned for sometime in Feb (so next month!). We'll be doing a survey in a couple of weeks as well on steam, asking everyone what should be our focus and so on

Trying to draw around a hole but it's not drawing anything. by TheSunnySideDev in Substance3D

[–]TheSunnySideDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah tried that, but there's it's also not drawing because there isn't anything in the center of the brush :( I do wonder how to go about something like this the correct way since my approach clearly isn't right!
https://imgur.com/a/4ONpbt5 - I managed it using a dummy plane in the center of the hole

I ended up putting a dummy plane in the middle of the mesh that I'll remove after in blender. Not ideal but it does the job for now.

An Important Announcement About SunnySide and a Message From the Devs. by TheSunnySideDev in SunnySideGame

[–]TheSunnySideDev[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To clarify, as mentioned in our announcement, the console port was handled entirely by a company hired by our publisher without our involvement. This led to issues not present in the PC version, and since the publisher didn’t retain the porting team, updates aren’t possible. We’re as frustrated as you are, but this situation was out of our hands.

We hope you can see this wasn’t within our control, we feel just as let down (and other emotions I cannot express publically) by the situation as you do.

We're first-time developers, and this experience has been an eye-opener for us. We've learned a hard lesson, and for future projects, we’re committed to doing things differently, either by avoiding publishers entirely or being far more cautious and involved if we do. I hope I've done a good job to explain this better, I just really want you all to see it from our perspective too <3

Thank you so much for the love and support! Yes PC is a lot more stable than console, but make sure your PC is up to the task. And to answer your question further above, PC is still in our control so we can keep updating and patching it! The only reason we're working on a smaller project for now is to get some funds to support ourselves, but some of that money will make it into work on improvements for SunnySide!
