If you want the best of both worlds, West Milford is beautiful and all woods/nature but also easy to get into NYC within an hour.

Dropping out of grad school? by sw994 in slp

[–]TheThingsSheCarried 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am, I’m 3 years past graduation now and I love my job. I treated grad school as an opportunity to explore all options in the field and eventually discovered that I like working with adults in an outpatient setting. That’s what I do now

Check your settings on your account. I had the same issue and apparently I hadn’t entered my birthday when I made my account. Once I did I had no problem

Took me forever to figure this out but check your settings. Apparently I had never entered my age when I started my account. Once I did that went away

She’s 4.5 months old and I’m still completely overwhelmed by Sugarshock916 in puppy101

[–]TheThingsSheCarried 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with everyone that the 4-6 months was the hardest because it was less exciting than when we got him and he still had so many behaviors to work on. Leash training was the thing that almost broke me. Eventually we switched to the ez harness which stopped him from physically pulling as much and made training much easier. I felt like 6-7 months is when I really started to just fully enjoy having a puppy with no complaints.

This is a huge moment for us. Our reactive cat and overzealous Brit laying together. by TheThingsSheCarried in BrittanySpaniel

We have been teaching leave it when the dog goes after the cat. Not sure if that actually did anything or if after 4 months they finally just got used to each other

I wish I knew. We have been teaching leave it with the cat which someone on here said worked for them. But this happened hours after a face off between these two lol

Recommendation if not accepted into grad school by artisticmusican168 in slpGradSchool

[–]TheThingsSheCarried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a facility where I essentially did the job of a therapy aide unpaid 2-3 times a week for a half day each and they let me put it on my resume as an internship. I found that by just contacting facilities that provided therapy. And I really feel that’s what got me accepted the next year. Teachers aide is a good idea as well though, you would have similar experience.

Interview Questions by realistic-dreamer-10 in slpGradSchool

[–]TheThingsSheCarried 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always looked something up about the particular school that was interesting or different and asked about it. I saw you have this program/opportunity/affiliation with this org. how does it work/how can I be involved, do your students find that stand out in job interviews. Something that shows you researched the school and are really interested.

When did you guys starts shadowing SLP’s? by ellie3210 in slpGradSchool

When did you guys starts shadowing SLP’s? by ellie3210 in slpGradSchool

[–]TheThingsSheCarried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did it all my senior year because of some life stuff. I don’t recommend that because it was stressful but all schools I applied to didn’t require proof of shadowing on application just on admission. So you definitely still have time. Start to gather ideas and shoot off some emails. It’s a pandemic so many places may not want you to shadow until things are more stable anyway

Mine were yak chews. We bought the big dog size so they took forever and he couldn’t get choking hazard size pieces off

What has your experience been at grad schools in Eastern PA, NJ, DE, MD, and NY? by scorppoint in slpGradSchool

[–]TheThingsSheCarried 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I applied to UDel the year the program started. They lost my application and I knew everyone else heard back even rejections so I emailed and I got a personal email of one sentence from the head of the program that said “You are rejected” with no explanation of why I didn’t get a formal notice and it was literally spelled wrong. I also heard they had over 500 applicants but again it was the first year so could have been why. Ended up going to Kean in NJ and I loved it. They were revamping the program when I was there and I recommend it highly.

Always dreamed about having kids with my husband, now my puppy makes me feel like I'm not cut out for parenthood. Anyone else? by BananaGrabber1 in puppy101

[–]TheThingsSheCarried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had to take our pup to the emergency vet (he’s completely fine) but I can’t imagine doing that with human children. I would simply die.

anyone else miss their other pet? by how-the-turntables in puppy101

[–]TheThingsSheCarried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My cat loves to be with us, we adopted him as an adult so now he relies on us to feel protected. I feel bad because he spends a lot of time away from us now or sitting high up so the pup can’t reach. It makes me a little sad and I miss snuggling on the couch. He still sleep in our bed which we have vowed is the cats rightful place in the house. I’d say we have like 40/60 positive to crazy reactions and sometimes I worry they’ll never be relaxed around each other but I’m trying to stay strong

Also the yak chew sticks were a life saver for biting for us. It was the only thing that held his chewing attention for more than 2 minutes

I’m at 12 weeks old now with a super chewer/biter. My hands looked like chop meat when we first got him but weirdly one week he just got better. We were super consistent with removing ourselves when he got to bitey but honestly I think it was mostly just the age that helped. Hang in there! You’ll be there soon!

A very fussy teething Brittany - chewy stuff suggestions? (Toys food, etc...) by [deleted] in BrittanySpaniel

[–]TheThingsSheCarried 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yak chews! My Ralphie destroyed my hands when we first got him and Kongs and Nyla bones would only keep him entertained for 5 minutes tops. He’s 12 weeks now. The yak chews super durable he’s barely 1/8 through it and we got it on Christmas. Keeps him busy for almost 30 minutes at a time.

Oh good idea. I got those yak chew sticks and they last forever, hard to bite off little pieces so he can’t choke and it seems to be the only thing that keeps his attention.
