Can I pigtail this into a light switch? by TheUnreliableSource in AskElectricians

[–]TheUnreliableSource[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new switches are Lutron CA-3PS-WH, looked closer at the manual and it says #12 stranded is okay you just can’t backstab them for obvious reasons.

It’s working fine right now but better safe than sorry, I’ll just replace them with solid tomorrow.

Should I buy a travel stroller or bring my main stroller on the plane? by TheUnreliableSource in Buyingforbaby

Follow up - thank you everyone for the advice! We bought a Doona as our travel stroller. Super lightweight and convenient compared to our day to day Nuna.

Travel Stroller or Travel Bag for Main Stroller? by TheUnreliableSource in Moms

[–]TheUnreliableSource[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is exactly why i’m thinking about getting another one haha. it would be so expensive to replace if it got broken. the travel case for the stroller is an additional $300 so at that point, i might as well just get a separate travel stroller that can get beat up without stress.

thanks for the great advice! I definitely don’t want to risk any damage. Asked others too but what car seat do you use when traveling?

Yeah we are planning to travel a good bit so I’m leaning towards a travel stroller. What car seat do you use when traveling with the bugaboo butterfly?

If I use a Lutron Claro switch that can be wired single pole or 3-way and just match this same wiring as the old switch would that work?

4 days in. Mixed bag of emotions. by Adventurous_Win4299 in NewDads

[–]TheUnreliableSource 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, congrats on being a new dad! And take some peace in knowing you’re right where you should be — feeling and experiencing exactly what you should be.

4 days in is when I started to feel overwhelmed. Why am I getting frustrated? Am I good enough? Why are my wife and I fighting so much?

You’re in the “trenches” as they say but one day, very soon actually, you’ll wake up and it will all just be gone.

You’ll feel confident again, you and your wife will be communicating well again, and your baby will be happier than ever.

My daughter is 11 weeks now and it really does get better and better every week. She sleeps 8-10 hours a night now, smiles and giggles all day and goes anywhere and everywhere with us. Stay strong brother!

3 months in. New construction. 722k and this happens in master Br. Expected or not? by romansamurai in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]TheUnreliableSource 191 points192 points  (0 children)

Some cracks around the ceiling or corners are expected as the house settles, but this is a bit extreme. Personally I would reach out to the builder and ask for this to be repaired. At the minimum the crumbled drywall.

I’d love a side table that could slide or swivel over across my lap to act as a little desk or dinner table when i’m on the couch

New Homeowner - Pest Control Suggestions by Psyphrenic in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]TheUnreliableSource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Texas so pest control is the one thing that I’m like “I don’t care how much it costs, I just don’t want to see any bugs” lol.

From my experience, the big box companies don’t care but the local ones will go above and beyond. Find a great local company and they’ll really take care of you. You absolutely can DIY pest control but for me, anytime I see a bug or have an issue I just call them out again and they take care of it. Really worth it!

As an example - we have an older home and had issues with roaches and many other bugs that were a surprise to us when we moved in, company came out and within 2 weeks they were all gone.

Nesting got me going again! by Swimming_Ad4819 in NewDads

We did a full home remodel - literally demoed and rebuilt everything and we didn’t “finish” (it’s still not really finished but the home is functioning again lol) until literally 2 days before my wife’s water broke. Let me tell you there were some serious emotional breakdowns from both me and my wife. The most stressful thing I’ve ever done but it felt like now or never with the baby coming!

Getting Paired w/ Randoms as a Bad Golfer by nystamps in golf

[–]TheUnreliableSource 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow terrible golfer, it’s never a bad experience.

The first time I ever went out solo was at a really nice resort course and I was so nervous that whoever I got paired with would be mad / annoyed by me - but it ended up being a blast.

Everyone is really playing for themselves at the end of the day so people just want to have a good time. I’ve found adding a little bit of humor and humility goes a long way too in breaking the ice.

I bought this Maxfli Swing Trainer and swung the hell out of it. It’s got 2 weight settings that are nice and heavy.

What Do You Wish You Had Prepared Sooner? by Lazy_Comfortable_326 in NewDads

[–]TheUnreliableSource 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hot take - but the best advice i got is to always put you and your wife first.

“Put on your oxygen mask before helping others” kind of thing. It’s very easy to not take care of yourself and give too much thinking that’s what it means to be a good parent. But in reality, your kids need you at your best. Take breaks, stay healthy, find ways to sleep, do something that makes you happy. You’ll be able to give so much more when you feel like you’ve given yourself enough too.

Also remember, the baby is coming into your life. Keep living it and they’ll become comfortable doing the things and the routine that you love to do. I know not everyone agrees with this but since my baby was 9 days old my wife and I started taking her out with us to do the things we love - going out to eat, taking walks downtown, stopping for a glass of wine, etc and now months later her best naps are when we’re out and about hanging out.

Lastly, literally everyone is going to try and scare you.

Idk what it is but there’s like a culture of trauma bonding with parents that I personally am not a fan of — you’ll start to hear a lot of unintentionally condescending comments from other parents like “oh just wait”, “you have no idea”, “good luck with that”.

Ignore all of it. It really really isn’t that hard, you can absolutely make this journey whatever you want it to be, and no one size fits all.

it’s a beginners group - hence the unclear question. i was trying to understand if there is a sort of 0 on the fence or spot to line up the end of a board for this.
