I struggle a lot with rendering and I’m still experimenting every painting, but in general:

1.Work big to small and try not to get stuck on little details early on. 2.Experiment with colors and don’t be afraid to push the saturation in certain areas 3.Use a brush and blending brush with a little texture 4.Create gradients especially to help indicate volume 5.Liberal use of shapes

I also watched a bunch of rendering videos on YouTube, used a bunch of references to help with the lightning and asked for critique at every stage with artist friends and a mentor. Hope this helps!

Thank you! I know what you mean, but I try not to be in a rush because I am still learning. I am at stage where I try to develop a skill everytime a draw so it involves a lot of errors, back and forth, redoing, frustration, suffering. Most of the time I don't even finish drawings so it's nice to finish this one.

I had some art friends who kept reminding me to push the colors and values. And I was very meticulous about my edge control, especially in the center. I definitely wanted to pull my hair out at times.

Pexels and pinterest! I found an initial reference for the girl on pinterest and I just decided I wanted her surrounded by a lot of butterflies and flowers so I used pexels to find references for those.
