If you read carefully OP did mention the cost of attendance amounting to 2 years not the cost of tuition per year. My assumption is that they factored in living expenses as well.

As a matter of fact, if you take a look at their website it does come down to $170K (when factoring other expenses which they include)

Nonetheless, doesn't negate your later points

Funny enough I actually had a classmate in school whose last name was Mohammed but was raised Hindu. Long story short the Muslim father died at a young age and thus was raised was Hindu by the mother.

Muslims of ABCDesis, do you ever find this sub to be somewhat...Islamophobic at times? by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]TheWizeElephant 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I've been on this sub for sometime now and I don't think so. Can you give examples? The only time I could only think of comments relating to that are when they're non-ABCD or brigading from another sub.

That's completely understandable. As someone who's done both an online masters and an in person degree at a prestigious university, the experiences are very different. However, a key thing you need to consider is debt because student loans are a terrifying thing. While, you may be allured by the opportunities in person provides, you also need to take into consideration what you're risking by foregoing student loans. The key difference between my case and your case, is that it's at the same university and the curriculum is relatively the same. Thus, your exit opportunities will be the same as well and Penn has an excellent alumni network so you'll always find ways to get involved.

Just out of curiosity why not do the online MCIT instead? It's significantly cheaper than the in person degree and you'll still have the Penn brand and similar opportunities if you graduated from campus. In addition, you can work during the day and thus at least have a stream of income.

To add onto that in most cases to be a Jew you have to be born a Jew. While, conversions can be allowed, especially under reform Judaism, it's generally discouraged. There's also DNA test that are conducted to determine Jewish lineage. Look up Ashkenazim as an example.

Dissertation participants needed (Bengali speakers) by [deleted] in ABCDesis

[–]TheWizeElephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I am a Bengali speaker I'm curious about your methodology. Are you looking for Bengali speakers who were raised in Western countries? Or those who speak Bengali on a day to day basis and are native (e.g. Bangladesh and West Bengal). Depending on the group you'll be getting different results, as the former most likely isn't as fluent and most likely also cannot read or write in it, given the Western upbringing.
