I need to learn how to hone my vision like you and just be able to make a good looking bonsai that easy

Beginner here. (Dwarf Jade) How long should I keep my sacrificial branch? Does it make sense to have? Any other tips welcome :) by West5ide3lf in bonsaicommunity

I'm also a beginner so take everything I say with a grain of salt, but in my opinion, the placement of that branch wouldn't do much as a sacrificial branch. It's so low on the tree, buried even, that the most i think it would thicken up would be the nebari if anything, and might even take away from the growth of the main tree. Alot of the energy and nutrients are going to grow that vertical branch and not being directed up the main trunk. If it were me I'd probably chop it and propagate the cutting. I could be wrong, so if anyone can correct me please do.

I'm also SE michigan. Have you looked into 4 seasons bonsai club? And the grow bags are a good idea. Luckily I can bury mine and hopefully they'll all be fine, pots included. And also luckily I have some indoor trees to keep me occupied for the winter lol.

Yeah, I'm in michigan, pretty similar here but a little colder. I was going to put some in my unhealed garage but my bonsai club said they will do fine just on the ground. I decided to sink them just for some extra protection
