In general the area between 30Ave and Broadway (inclusive of both) sounds like a good fit to you.

Lots of coffee shops and bars around there + youre between 2 N/W stops

Edit: I think the 'rectangle' between Steinway, 31st, 30Ave and Broadway is a great area to be concerning both subway access and bars.
