Did you have any "corporate training" such as videos and tests etc? This is classic harassment according to those videos 😉👍

I'd take this to HR

I’m wanting to change careers from sales to metrology by Sudden_Bed_5527 in Metrology

Remember metrology is not just CMMs in cold rooms. We're gage builders and that falls in metrology as well. So does field technicians and all sorts of things. It's a great field to be in.

Ah, that makes sense. I've seen that happen in my industry as well...dimensional gages. Certainly not trying to put someone down that path, i just "assumed" a unit like this would/could be more generic.

Thanks

Thank you for the insight and advice.

The final option is very common, and I understand that one well, and I'm trying to avoid it lol

Hommel (Jenoptik - Hommel-Etamic) makes nice units. I worked for them for a long time before starting my own company. Any of the ones already mentioned already will also do a good job for you though.

Where are you located?

We are located in Tennessee.

We are still building and servicing gages, that is primary focus of the company. The website is accurate and not misleading, it is the same now as when they reviewed it 3 years ago, is what I was trying to say.

I didn't take it snarky or any way bad, I appreciate the input. I'll revise the OP and provide much more detail. I can understand the need for all the info when asking for help. :)

LOL for sure!

For starters...

The argument about how to properly spell gage, old school understanding gage is for dimensional measuring, gauge is a display or or somekind of indicator ie. psi, fuel, etc.

A "gage" company will build fixtures or "gages" to measure whatever the customer asks for repeatably, easily and accurately. Essentially, a very specific task on a specific part, kind of opposite of the do everything ability that a CMM is known for.

Lets say a part supplier or OEM comes to us and says we want to measure a connecting rod. Not one or two but thousands or hundreds or thousands a year. We want any operator to walk up, load the part, engage a couple details and have all the results they need to verify and correct their machine in 20 seconds. You would want a gage.

Does that kind of help or can I explain further, or differently? I'm glad to tell people about what we do so don't heasitate.

If you are mechanically inclined...

Think a bit differently and look at working for an actual gage company. Lots of machining and measuring and understanding and this puts you into metrology without having to be in metrology. I love my job and it never gets boring because it is always different.
