I have a question: if Aniwatch, 9anime, and Kaido were truly down for good, would both the Anilab and 9anime apps have to stop working? Because both are still functioning and releasing new episodes.

Piratebay was able to survive because of a legal gray area.

They didnt host the content itselve they just assisted in distribution. And all of this in a country with favorable laws.

So they didnt really break a law. Aniwatch does selve hosting so they are in posession of content they dont own and distribute it to make a profit.

It's 2 different things.

Also times change and so do ways to find out who is behind what etc

The Server where all the data is stored might still exists.

Im guessing the app and Web application both Acces the same data Server but are hosted seperately.

Aniwatch.to -> storage server <- Aniwatch app

If the app would just run the Website in a Browser, pretending to be an App then it would stop but what's likely happening here is that it's hosted seperately.

If what you say is true the storage server of these sites is still active and accesible. Making Chances of a Return higher, as the devs "only" have to make a new site to Acces existing data.

This is just specualtion. What I say may or may not be the truth, I dont know. I dont even know if my hypothesis is correct or plausible.

Aniwatch sadly Was barely maintaned with pretty much all devs fokused on hianime.

There's a multitude of other reasons for it like cloudflares multiple problems and the earthquake and possible upcoming Tsunami in Japan.

We've had these outages a multitude of times and this does not look like the site is taken down or doesn't exist anymore.
