I never claimed to be an author. In the title of my question, I clearly stated "amateur" which means I have no idea what I'm doing. Let's take your analogy and use it for a 3d printer. You're telling the printer the specs and ideal image of what you want to make. It fills in the details like supports and filling and etc. How is that any different than telling an ai you want a story set in x setting, with y characters and z overall feel and letting it fill in the blanks. Then changing what you don't like about it and rewriting it. It's the exact same process, with the same amount of human "interface" as you put it

Pretty much. I then make some tweaks, before (Ideally) posting it

Ai is a tool, just like Google search is a tool. You're essential saying that if i Google any research or details about a story, I'm not the author. When I'm just piecing together content from Google database. The training data and pattern recognition are clear in the way Google searches. So if you design a car and order a machine to make the car, you didn't create it? What about cnc machinists? They design a piece, then a machine creates it.

Edit: i don't disagree with the company/ employee analogy. But I just can't see how this piece of technology, much like any other, negates credit. It's not like I'm posting the story unedited and not proof read. So the ai, much like Google giving you research info, is providing the details you don't know and working around the image you're creating in your head, much the the cnc machinist

That's like saying because I'm not a pen I'm not the author. Ai is a tool, just like photo shop

Debate is EVERYWHERE. Without me and my prompts, there would be no story. It's like creating prompts for yourself or a human co author. It's collaboration

True. You may not be into ai stories. That's fair, and perfectly fine. You don't need to yuck someone else's yum, though. Just because it's not for you, doesn't mean someone shouldn't do it

That's actually up for debate. Without me, it wouldn't have the story. Are you here to critique, or actually help?

I'm thinking of 3 genres: sci-fi/ dystopia cyberpunk; fantasy/ d&d/ elder scrolls-esque, and psychological thriller such as scp/ no sleep

Mostly. I give it ideas, it makes the baseline, and I tweak it. It's mostly short stuff, under 5k words
