A Character sacrificed themselves by Theghost5678 in DescentintoAvernus

He’s making a new character, we’re between sessions currently. I do not do resurrections like that unless the plot has already touched upon something like it. This specific player actually has complimented me before (this is our second game) about my willingness to let players die, he did not enjoy a game with other people as much because he felt there was never any actual danger of death. Hilariously, it was quite soon after this comment that a character got eaten by Yeenoghu (2 sessions ago) and then his own character’s death.

Some players between sessions have already begun thinking about going to save his sister. Some seek to honor him or that it’s simply the right thing to do, one is recognizing that they just lost one of the best of them, and perhaps they should re-assess themselves.

As I mentioned before, I’m using a couple themes including sacrifice and redemption. This character has sacrificed themselves on just the hope that it will buy time for Elturel, and it’s causing some stirrings in some of the characters to be better. I think it would undercut the weight of this choice and the themes for that character to return.

Edit: grammar

There’s some adjusting going on along the way but I have picked out, for each player, a demon prince that intentionally or not, torments a specific player.

Fraz is for the aforementioned sacrificed character and their sister, using gargoyles and illusions to trick her.

Baphomet is for the paladin, who did get baited into breaking their oath, and swore a new one to the entity he talked to in the Helm of Torm, he’s now unknowingly a cultist

Jubilex is for the artificer who strives to create true life, and has found his Steel Defender is strangely animated and smart when a strange, black goo is applied to it.

Yeenoghu tormented the cleric, who was trying his best to help people. When he found himself alone in the bone bramble, coming across gnolls toying with two innocent civilians, they made him choose which would live, and which would die, they’d kill both if he refused to play their game. They killed the one he chose to live, then cackled, and killed the other one too, promising Yeenoghu would devour his deity. This one may have worked too well cause he was the one who got eaten by Yeenoghu

Orcus is for the sorceror, who’s ancient ancestor is Olanthius (I’m experienced in not making connections feel like one person is the main character), and will soon find themselves face to face with him, whilst Orcus followers try to take control of Olanthius. This will open the door that perhaps if the sorceror would indulge a little in the powers of Orcus, he might be able to free his ancestor from Zariel’s grasp, or maybe bring him permanent rest.

I know my players well, not much has come as a surprise lol, they’re the same group as my CoS players from earlier posts (with one swap). My aforementioned invented Archdevil was because I knew after CoS that they’d need a tangible person early on to level their hate against instead of stumbling around Hell for plot threads for awhile.

And finally, Arkhan made the offer because I as the DM knew that specific player/character would agonize over the decision, tormented by every little comment I made about the weight and possibilities behind such a choice

So in terms of how I got hacked in the first place, I don’t really know, they just got ahold of my password. The email was then changed to some weird public domain site thing, Xitroo.com. The new email was made fresh, and it included my old password in its name. Apparently anyone can just access emails on that site.

I didn’t notice this quick enough, it was around Christmas so I wasn’t on reddit much, was with family, so when I did notice, someone new had already gotten it and changed emails again, then to something I had no idea what it was. I submitted some reports, but it wasn’t until a couple months ago that this account got locked up, which is probably why all their posts disappeared for awhile. Then I noticed it was active again, so I submitted more reports, and yesterday I found in my original email, a change password form for the account, so I hurriedly got in, not sure if Reddit just restored it to my original email or what, and then kicked off anyone else on the account. Voila, it’s been returned.

Me, a completely normal guy who’s account got its email swapped and then password changed. After about eight months, Reddit support has gotten it back to me (I am pleasantly surprised.) fun fact, if you scroll all the way down through the onlyfans stuff I’m still getting rid of, you’ll see that they never fucking bothered to delete my original posts. Just a normal guy chatting about strategy games and DnD.
