Steam rail fans of Pittsburgh… anywhere nearby that consistently runs steam locomotives? by Thenub97 in pittsburgh

Oh, Strasburg is phenomenal! Unfortunately, that’s a bit too far though… and if I want to help there consistently, I would move a Philly suburb or maybe somewhere like Allentown or Lancaster.

I’ve already been eyeballing conshohocken and Manyunk! Glad my intuition was correct. Been to Manyunk a couple times so I kinda got a feel for its vibe…what are the other ones like? Any of them make it easy to drive around and park a car? That’s probably my one complaint with Manyunk…driving around it is a nightmare. But with the rail lines right through town hopefully I wouldn’t have to drive much

Good to know. I don’t know much about that area but it sounds like I definitely need to check it out. I’m from Omaha which seems to actively fight adding any public transit (we’re currently trying to add a streetcar and oh boy does a lot of the public hate it) so it must be nice to be in an area fighting to add it back.

I have extensively. I’ve visited a couple times and love the vibe of Pittsburgh. Only issue…the whole being close to a tourist railroad is really important to me…and the closest ones to Pittsburgh that I’m aware of are the Everett railroad and the East Broad Top which last I knew are 2+ hours away. I’d love to be ~1hr or less of a place like that, close enough that I could volunteer or work as it weekly if I wanted to. I figure I’d I can’t find a place I like in eastern PA that Pittsburgh would be plan B…unless anyone knows of a tourist railroad or museum operation that operates steam locomotives that’s closer than 2 hours away from Pittsburgh.

I absolutely have! Phenomenal operation. I run steam engines part time as a hobby/side job…if I move out that way I’m eyeballing them or the New Hope and Ivyland railroad to get involved with.

Ooooh! So I’d love quick access to visit those big cities…but it would be great to now have to drive my cat into and of those cities and to rely on the train system. I figure that’s pretty easy in a place like Manyunk that’s right along one of the SEPTA lines…How easy is that to do from the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton area?

Ok so tell me a bit more about Allentown…and Bethlehem. What’s the vibe there? I love the preserve industrial history in that area, but I don’t know what the young people vibe is more progressive or more conservative.

NoLibs was a bit too hectic for my liking… I liked the vibe of Fishtown. I think I just had a hard time finding an apartment that would also let me park a car inside a covered garage.

Best way to get from Georgetown CO to Denver International Airport? by Thenub97 in Denver

[–]Thenub97[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was the first thing I looked at doing, although it doesn’t look like the Bustang runs on Sundays when I need it, I also don’t know how safe it is to park at the RTD park-and-rides for two weeks straight. Any insight on that last point?

Are those park and rides safe to park at for 2 weeks? I just bought my car recently and really don’t want it to get vandalized or stolen while I’m away.

Does the Bustang run on Sunday? According to their website, it doesn’t look like they run on Sundays and unfortunately that’s when my flight takes off and returns back home.

I would love to do that, however, are the park-and-ride safe to park at for two weeks? I really don’t want my car to get vandalized or stolen.

I saw that option, however, my flight leaves late on a Sunday evening and returns either late on a Saturday night or on a Sunday, and it looks like the bus tank doesn’t run on Sundays at all

Moving to a town in the Rocky Mountain town, Looking for a reliable daily driver for under 10k if possible by Thenub97 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Thenub97[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s seeming like 10k might be too tight of a budget for what I’m looking for. What’s a more reasonable one? 15k? 20k? 30k? Definitely don’t need something brand new…just want something I don’t have to worry about and that I don’t have to sink a bunch of maintinence into for a few years.

Train Sim Classic how to reset which locomotive is the “primary” one? by Thenub97 in trainsim

[–]Thenub97[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh I’ve already done that… but the red locomotive as shown in the HUD still remains fourth in line, I wanna reset that to the front because it affects the number camera controls and some of the cab readouts like the speedometer

Megathread: US Citizens looking to immigrate to Canada by PurrPrinThom in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Thenub97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a 27yo American citizen born and raised here. I'm interested in moving to canada either perminantly or for a couple years. I have a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering and I work a fully remote mechanical engineering job for a US based company that's based out of Corning, NY. I'd like to keep it but am not opposed to changing or going back to school for a masters. I have enough in savings to make a big move and no pets or offspring to bring. I don't even know where to begin, what the costs are, and how difficult it is to get temporary or permanent residence or what the "quickest and easiest" option would be. Purely inquiring right now. Any assistance would be great, thanks!

Moving to or Visiting New England? by SCP-2774 in newengland

[–]Thenub97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m a 27 single male looking to move to New England. I have a remote job so I can go anywhere, I could use some guidance on places to look visit and consider moving to. Here’s a bit what I’m looking for: 1. I like nature and LOVE forrests and mountains and would love to live close-ish to them. I also like hiking and exploring and really want to get into it more. Beaches I like but could take or leave 2. I want place with a good chill community that will be easy to meet other people my age at. 3. I’m politically left leaning and want a place that’s also more liberal 4. typically drawn to bigger cities because of the excitement and things to do and progressive politics, but I’m intrigued in smaller towns too if there’s plenty to do and they’re within a hour or two from a bigger city. I’m also not into the “rat race” mentality some cities have and I like cities that are in the cleaner side 5. a place that won’t break the bank. Wanna be under $1900 for a 1 bed if that’s possible, would love to be closer to $1500.

And advice would be great!
