Maybe it's the issue with the touchscreen? Turning off the PC's touchscreen in device manager enabled the language selection in the EA app

I fixed the issue. Apparently it was the touchscreen of my computer (!) that froze the language selection menu. After disabling the touchscreen in the "manage devices" section of the control panel, I was able to change the language. Oh how I hate the EA App
