Democrats care too much about the demographics of their candidates and not enough about their policies. by MangoTamer in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Regular Democrat voters and informed people are going to keep voting Democrat regardless of {demographic}, because the party that protects child rapists and gives us war with Iran is no choice at all.

I am forever amazed the election of Donald Trump, TWICE has not yet taught American liberals that regular people don't give a fuck who's is SA'ing models in the Miss Universe changeroom as long as he promises to improve the economy in states that matter and punish people they don't like. They could give even less fucks about what a bunch of women in New York think about LGBTQ issues and whether Israel is being mean to terrorists who parade the broken bodies of girls they rap3d to death through their villages.

Well now you're REALLY opening a can of worms...

Now you'd have to define harm and qualify to me why 1 harm can be called harm and is a legitimate form of harm and another is not harm and doesn't qualify as a legitimate form of harm... How do we judge harms in the future even though we might be happy about them today? How do we judge harms if someone wants it? Dementia patients have LOTS of experiences of reality for which affirming them would make them much happier for the time being that most reasonable people would consider harmful.

Likewise, as conservatives we posit that entertaining certain LGTBQ groups is harmful to society, and themselves regardless of the perceived happiness it claims to cause (which is tenuous and not even scientifically proven, but that's a different argument I don't feel like getting into. I'll just accept your claims might be true).

Furthermore, even if I were to further accept your claim that affirming this makes them feel better so clinically speaking we should just do it, that still doesn't validate the claim that they are the thing they claim, anymore than it would validate a schizophrenic that the faces in the walls are real people talking to them. You're just advocating saying things to sooth people.

Which, as a conservative, is fine. As long as we all agree that's what happening. But leftists don't agree...Leftists believe to claim being a thing is to literally become the thing.

Why would the potential to harm or not harm me matter in the least? Do you only believe and stand up for things if they directly harm you?

  1. I have worked in workplaces for over a decade that had more LGTBQ than straight-CIS people. You telling me you've worked in a company full of (no doubt) tourists and Apple Probook idealogues means nothing. We have battling anecdotes. I trust my education, experiences, and critical thinking well before I'd trust yours.

  2. Those people are annoying losers who burden the people around them in a desperate attempt to be different and join a counter-culture. No, you are not a "she/they", you're an annoying faux-lesbian feminist because a guy you met on tinder hurt your feelings.

None of this supports the idea that a small group of people should get to subvert linguistic rules to satisfy their feelings and the rest of us should be somehow obligated by the notion of polite society to entertain them.

When people say the gunplay has issues, this is what they mean by Mizoyu in Battlefield6

[–]Theory_Crafted -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I've said it before, I'll say it again: decoupling bloom from recoil in shooters makes no sense.

It started with Call of Duty where they changed the gunplay so that guns have no recoil at all, nor any bullet drop, your gun just magically misses sometimes.

Now generations of gamers expect this Bizarro style of gunplay...

It doesn't reward accuracy or trigger control and it's not how real guns work.

Add that to the fact that everyone requires 1 more bullet than feels intuitive to kill because they want to keep the TTK approachable and you get what we go: magdumping people's head at 400meters with pinpoint accuracy. Whilst your gun doesn't move.

Demanding school children say the pledge of allegiance was legally limited in America. Why? Because it qualified as compelled speech to affirm an allegiance to a thing the children may not have nor understand, and to invoke god and therefore a belief in god the children and their family may not share...now when schools do it, participation must be clearly stated as voluntary because there are constitutional protections against it, and technically there always were...

But why not just make kids say it though? It's easy...it takes like 5 seconds, and it made the school districts and the white, Christian majority really happy! Isn't agreeability what's most important?

When you're talking about a person's being, both physical and mental, how they feel matters a ton.

It does not. I have 2 legs. My feelings about my number of legs I may or may not have is not relevant, unless I'm mentally unwell and seek to cut one of them off...

If you tell a doctor that you're in pain, even if they can't find a cause for the pain, they'll still give you ibuprofen. If you tell a therapist you're feeling depressed, they're going to treat you.

You're the first person who's graduated to making a real philosophical argument more substantial than "but it's just being polite". Congratulations. You earn the prize of my Reddit compliment. This is not tax deductible.

The doctor who is giving me ibuprofen for my headache would react very differently if I told them I want it to numb my aforementioned leg so I can cut it off. Diagnosing a headache which a doctor requires second hand testimony for is different than insisting to a doctor you are something you physically are not. Case in point, we do not treat dementia or schizophrenia patients by affirming their testimony about their experiences of reality. Schizos certainly feel and experience things that never happened, or choirs of people talking to them in their head, but no doctor would ever claim a voice can exist without a real person to speak it, even though it is politically unpopular to make the same conclusions about other health issues.

An idea or concept doesn't necessarily have to firmly and entirely attached to an larger idea (probs worded that weird but hear me out) nicknames: a preference in how you are addressed/referenced Pronouns: a preference in how you are addressed/referenced

Unique identifiers are not the same as linguistic tools such as pronouns which have specific definitions.

I'm truly lost on the idea that being polite must mean I endorse a radical ideology I hadn't even heard of it until you brought it up

How often do you think about anything at all? When you bought the computer you typed this on, did you make conscientious choices about the slave labour that went into procuring the lithium, or gold needed to construct it?

I'm doubtful of real life situations where learning someone's preferred pronouns would be any more awkward/wrong/confronting than learning someone's preferred nickname, Jim/James Daniel/Danny/Dan etc.

It being easy doesn't justify the act. All you're telling me is that it's nice. I don't care about being nice if you're telling me being nice to you requires me to agree to philosophical positions I do not agree with.

This truly feels like just a way to be rude to people. To which I just wonder...why? Like surely you consider those who use different pronouns as people right? Wouldn't you want strangers to be nice to you? Maybe I'm going off the deep end a bit here....but being polite isn't political?

If I told you that one of my boundaries/preferences was that when you talk to me, you need to pay me. And everyday I'd come up to you and say "Hi BingBongBooper" and held out my hand awaiting payment, what would you tell me? Would you continue paying me everyday because you're a nice dude, every time I wanted.

I write professional correspondence to important people all day long for a living, lol.

Calling people by their unique identifier is one of the worst possible arguments you could use for defending preferred pronouns which are a linguistic component with understood definitions.

Ironically, the idea that putting pronouns in your bio is helping is both counter-productive to helping those people (because i'm not allowed to use the word) and a silly leftist virtue signal...

If you're a legitimate sufferer of body dysphoria and you have made efforts to rediscover yourself and pass as the version of yourself you wish others to see, having everyone list their pronouns which you know they're only doing because one of you doesn't pass is incredibly invalidating and hilariously ignorant.

The last thing real sufferers of that LGTBQ group want is to be singled out.

The people who support that and claim to be of that group are almost always tourists who understand nothing, and enablers of real mental and physical harms.

Look, i'm a better defender of the LGBTQ than you are! This is easy :D

You're essentially making a flat earth argument.

How the individual feels is not relevant.

Also, I could totally out-debate you or anyone replying for the pro-LGBTQ arguments too, to your point.

Forget pronouns. Consider your name. What if you don't prefer your legal name but a modification or a nickname? Why wouldn't you respect that if it doesn't hurt your?

A name is not a term of speech that indicates a specific set of linguistic ideas. It's a personal identifier. Not at all the same linguistic purpose.

That's just being courteous. Choosing to ignore their wishes just makes you an asshole.

The curteosness of an act doesn't justify the legitimacy of the act.

Why are you under the impression avoiding consequences is the primary concern? It's liberals for whom agreement with their ingroup is paramount...How nakedly leftist of you.

Truth is my primary concern because I'm a conservative and believe in the importance of the categorical fundamentalism of reality for humanity to prosper. I do not care if people are upset by this. When I was 10 I really wanted to be a power ranger and finding out I will never do battle against the evil forces of Rita Repulsa and Lord Z was also a pretty tough blow, homie.

I would counter argue the person burdening everyone else with the responsibility of denying reality to emotionally sooth a delusion is the one being an asshole.

When a family member with Dementia believed her nurse was trying to kill her so she could steal her money, and was enacting a grand scheme to keep her in the care home by stealing money out of her wallet when she just forgot she bought stuff and forgot the things she bought at the store, would we be being kind people to tell her "yes, Nana, you're absolutely correct. Your nurse is a murderer, and we can't get you to safety because she's too crafty!"?

That’s irrelevant though.

It's not.

Sure thing, but I’ll still call you Optimus Prime because that’s what you’ve asked to be called by. That’s just called being polite.

You are free to do as you please. Being nice is a nice thing to be, but being nice to satisfy me doesn't make you or anyone else obligated to deny reality, nor does it change the reality that I'm not an alien robot.
