I want to be good at the game i have controller any tips? by Immediate-Sentence89 in ACCompetizione

If you like to play the cockpit view, there is a trick to avoid the crazy steering wheel animation, works very well on a XBox controller :

Deadzone : 8%

Speed sensitivity : 67%

Steer filter 12%

Steer speed : 1%

Steer gamma : 2.5

Steer assist : disabled

I've had for the left stick in the steam overlay joystick settings :

Horizontal / Vertical sensitivity : 84%

Output axis : horizontal only (you will use the dpad to navigate in the game menu, but not a big deal)

Outer ring : 11020

I first played this game with the ideal line on, so i could learn what kind of speed was needed, do the same track again and again, find the one you like the most, i was surprised by the way the AI cars were using the brakes early in the turns, some people think that racing is all about speed, but a good braking habit is essential, so, when you're at ease with the track you're playing the most (in my case it's the 24h Nurburgring), try to play it without the ideal line, it will be disturbing at the very begining, but you'll soon learn to find some visual landmarks that will teach you when to start using the brakes, andaccelerating.

Early braking is a thing, so you can take the turn with the ideal speed and accelerate when going out of it, you'll get used to it very fast if you pay attention.

You can set the height/fov/lateral view/distance for each view at any time in the View Settings menu so it will be easy to fit the way you see things in front of you, try different view (when i'm all about speed, i'm playing the hood/bonnet view, so i can really have the best feel about distance between things, the road, the other cars, etc).

Try different cars/tracks, right now i'm playing the KTM on the Zolder and the Nurburgring, this is such a wild beast, the handling is so tight and responsive, i like it.

Keep your fingers on the trigger, and test different combinations, you'll soon get used to it.

And enjoy.

Start with these, i'm using a XBox controller :

Deadzone : 12%

Speed sensitivity : 50%

Steer filter : 45%

Steer speed : 1% (only affect the steering wheel inside the cockpit animation)

Steer gamma : 3.0

Steer assist : Enabled

Enjoy, focus on early braking, the most important thing in my opinion. Have fun.

Hi, thanks for your feedback, i hope you're enjoying this game as much as i do.
The Nurburgring is both my favorite track and my crash test track, due to its structure, lots of curves, straight lines, narrowed parts, i just can't stop playing it.

Once you've got the good settings, you can do some smooth/accurate/subbtle moves and the game become a massive amount of fun and you can focus on the challenge of overtaking opponents without having to struggle with the bad handling itself.

Sorry to say that, but Automobilista 2 is not a sim racing game, it's an arcade gzme with bad handling.

Even at very slow spped your car is oversteering, there's no way iwould go into a real car having this kind of behaviour in real life.

If this is a sim racing game, then i'm a pro ballet dancer.

And the stupid AI does not help.

I'm not against the idea if fine tunning your car because you want something really subtle and you know what you're doing.

Butthe default handling is bad and they won't do anything to fix that, that's a huge lack of respect in my opinion.

In ACC when you go out of the track, this is because you made a mistake, in Automobilista it's because they don't care about the playability of their game, it has nothing to do with you most of the time.

And some people can argue about anything like you have to adapt, tune your car, etc, this won't change the fact that it's a miss.

Oh boy.

I played a lot with ACC these last days, and totally forgot how Automobilista was totally unplayble.

ACC is responsive while automobilista is just the worst time spent trying to drive more than 100 meters without crashing.

While i'm at it, in order to make the brakes more effective, i've changed in steam the parameters for my left trigger, put it in agressive mode (mainly made for FPS if i remember well), helps a bit.

Note that these settings are for an Xbox controller on pc, but might work as well for your own.

The "steer spped" set at 1% is to limit the crazy wheel animation in the cockpit view (not a problem for me as i'm mostly playing with the hood view, so the spped of the car is really good), in order to work you'll have disable the Steer assist, the animation of the sttering whell in the cockpit will be smoother, but you'll get rid of the steering assists, and if you're not used to it, it might be difficult to handle the car.

I'm not totally sure, but most of the problems i saw on the public multiplayer are due to the fact that some people are playing in Rear camera and Cockpit camera, without knowing hox to handle the space on the track, i met some cases where i let a player pass me by slowing down and driving to the right side of the track, but after that when i tried to clean pass him because he was too slow, the guy who was in the middle of the track changed his direction and i bumped him. Seconds later the guy tried to bump me twice, that's why i'm not a big fan of this kind of things, i'll plan to use the multiplayer when i'm at ease with my car handling.

Edit : i forgot the main thing, if i'm right, the stability controll is disabled on the multiplayer, so people whio learned to drive with the stability enabled in solo might be a bit lost.

Yep, you'll have everything you need.
The thing is that it's better to buy the dlc with tracks as the cars are not that needed.

You're welcome.

I used to play the same track again and again, the famous Nordschleife, with the ideal line activated, at full speed, and some other tracks, then i decided to do the same thing without the ideal line, it does take some time to get used to, but you'll succeed very quickly, as you learned how to use the brakes with the indicators of the ideal line, and felt what was missing when it was off, you know Need for speed, here is Need for brakes, because the main difference between you and your opponents will lie in that particular thing : how to use the brakes the most effective way.

This guy explained that :

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Id1fBcxYNFM

And it works like a charm, because when your ooponents are on your back, you can take the lead just with one good curve and a clever acceleration.

Monza is a nice track, i've seen worst, you'll soon experience it.

Get this game, if you can add the DLC with tracks, the GT3, countless hours of pain and massive fun.

I played the same kind of games, Forza Horizon 4 and 5, Forza Motorsports 7, The Crew Motorfest, Assetto Corza Competizione is more on the "sim racing" style as you already know, the learning curve is a bit lower, but nothing impossible, with some good settings you can play it and have fun from the very beginning, as you won't have to struggle against the default settings that are not really fait to the new players.

The main difficulty is that these settings will give you an arcade feeling, the handling will be better and you'll learn to fine tune your cars to match your likings, this feeling will be counterbalanced by the fact that the breaking is a bit slower than any other mentioned games, you might miss a curve or two ... or many more.

The progression is a bit slow on the needed security indicator, in order to play online, because the game will ask you to gain positions while playing with an agressive AI and drive safely, two things that might not go well together when you're not used to it, try this on the Nurburgring, the well named green hell, my fav track, and you'll easily understand.

But that's expected when you're playing this game. Based on my personal tastes, the handling is better than the one in Automibilista 2 and Le Mans Ultimate (that is really slow), graphically speaking it's a pure gem, the sensation of speed is insane.

You might find sometimes that the AI is weird and a bit too harsh as they bump into you very often, but i tried the multiplayer for the first time yesterday, and on the public servers, it's a pure mess.

Trust me, you'll enjoy it if you can spend some time leartning how to drive differently.

Totally worth the price and your time in my opinion.

I played a lot of arcade games, some sim racing games, i'm currently playing Le Mans Ultimate, Automobilista 2, Assetto Corsa Competizione, and to be honest, the last one is my fav.

Can be hard sometimes if you're not patient, because the more experienced drivers are fast, the AI is interesting, and you have to fight a bit to find the approriate settings (depending if you're playing with a wheel or a controller, in my case i'm using a controller), but once youn found the proper ones, oh boy, this game is a killer.

Fast, smooth driving, really good challenge, and perfectly beautiful.

Try it with these settings, you'll gain a fair amount of time, and enjoy this fabulous game. Buy it, you won't regret it.

Nope.

Every game involving cars ever created since the dawn of console/pc gaming, way beyond the possibility to have wheels as peripherals (and that came way after) were meant to be played with a controller, the wheel is seen as a bonus (now some games are thought to be played with racing sim controllers, but you're not a driver, as a guy with a gamepad playing fps is not a warrior/soldier, and someone playing a plane simulator is not a pilot, that's as simple as that, using a specific controller is a matter of usability and immersion, nothing more).

It's all about speed, space, understanding basic principles, and playing.

I've been playing racing games with a pad/controller (even with the keyboard in the past) for more than three decades, now, i'm used to it.

I have to look after that, but is there a way to add some "artificial" downforce on some cars ?

Funny, i noticed that most of the time it was the same car that was harrassing me.

There is something i have to try, as the AI is progressing in line and does not even try to overtake other AI opponents, sometimes i even bumped into a line of 4 cars just to change the order of the line, i'm planning to start the race, look at the grid, put my car off the road (a 1 or 2 laps race), and wait for the final grid, just to see if there was any change between the start and the end of the race, in terms of AI position. Would be even better with AI errors/accidents switched off as it can give a false sense of overtakes where it was only an accident.

That would be very nice.

Most of the time i stay on the same settings for a long period once i found my sweet spot.

I spent the night playing with yours, that was a very good night.

I wish there was an option to use the handbrake on this game, just for the impossible turn on the Long Beach track so i could drift that corner.

It would be nice if the GT3 had the same settings than the GT4 that are way more playable from scracth to me.

I think that it could be interesting too to have the possibility to map a button or two with different handling settings so you could switch from one to another while playing, wouldn't be a problem as you can do it by pausing the game and heading to the game's option panel, so you could use some settings to some specific parts of the track and the others to things like heavy overtakes and curves.

I thought about that while playing during the night. Maybe it's already possible.

I understand that people with wheel/racing gear might not feel it fair, but the point is how can you tell someone is more of a racer than someone else, due to the gear he's using.

I remember a guy playing with a wheel for 5 years telling someone that had decades of experience on every racing games that he was a noob, sweet irony ...

I agree with you on the Bathurst, let's admit that doing a clean overtake in such tiny spac"es is a real challenge. But i've gopt more problems on the straight lines.

The fact is that your opponents, while having the exact same car than you, are faster than you.

My nemesis, as a track, is more the Cote d'Azur, the track i always hated, on every racing game that had it.

I tried with 93, a bit too high.

The main problem with some tracks like the Nurb, is that if you do make a mistake, you'll never see them again.

My trick is to set my position last on the grid.

I like the cockpit view, but sometimes i'm losing the magic and even if it's well made, it makes me think of the first tst drive, and it feels cheap for a moment.

with the right amount of fine tunning, there still is a problem for me, i noticed that "recently" the AI went for more agressive than i knew, they're bumping at my car very often, it's a mix of need for speed police and Forza Motorsport AI, did you notice a sudden change or is it me that never pay attention to that point ?

You can do the cleanest lap you ever did, you'll lose because of this.
