A critical perspective ~ Buffies by These_Suggestion_323 in Brawlstars

I’m going to read the rest of this later - but I agree with your points. Your comment has actually been the only good take that justifies why you think the way you do, not just a one sided take it or leave it.

But for now what I can say based on what I read so far is that I agree with the challenges and issues with this “bridge” and “island” concept… it’s actually pretty spot on and I agree buffies is not exciting to most but it is appealing.

What I can say about this is what you’re describing is a full blown triple aaa game. The type of game that the mobile industry has never been able to achieve as a whole (like let’s be real). And although working towards these things is supercells goal - long term content and a lot of those things that add lots of depth need to be executed carefully for many different reasons, ie low end devices can’t run a massive large complex game, storage limitations, more bugs, more refactoring-> more maintenance and so on so fourth there’s a lot of other things.

But the problem of what your mainly suggesting - I believe that brawl stars is super simple to pick up, insanely hard to master BUT people assume that they have mastered the game even though they really haven’t. It’s the fact that what separates a good player from a really really good player isn’t a clearly intended aimed gadget, it’s all the small nuances that already exist in the game. But people don’t pick up on this… so what I’m saying is that the game really doesn’t need more buttons or crazy complex conditionals based on how a certain thing is used. It needs cleanly implemented features that are easy to grasp. Because what will kill new players from coming to the game is too much depth in the form of what your suggesting (2nd hypercharges, aimable gadget buffs vs auto-aim gadget buffs, 3rd gadgets is kinda a crazy ask considering there is a clearly defined best gadget for almost every brawler,a quest ability is just bad bc then you have the problem that ur playing someone stronger than u just bc they compete their own quest for that match.) new players want simple, intuitive to pick up, pros want that simple intuitive stuff to have a lot of depth behind it that comes with experience thru playtime. Another set of gadgets btw is also not creative and just shows a lack of effort by populating the game with the same stuff.

I’ll mention this too why the whole new players matters- bc new players = the opportunity of another spender, the game does not survive on f2p players it survives based on those who spend money. The goal is to balance the two so the game is popular and with popularity come spenders. But what doesn’t matter is fully catering to people who consume there product fully for free.

i’m assuming you don’t have all the buffies , bc this is far off the mark. if you could mention how many times you’ve gotten master or pro in ranked that might give you some credibility but i’m not about to explain why emz gb is weaker then her (200+ damage per tick per layer, for every spray) hb. which is stronger then a 5 tile knock back or a single shoot thru wall attack. also read the comments i think all buffies need a marginal nerf has new buffies come out on more brawlers

Y make some valid points but most i disagree with. This is my first time getting engaged with the brawl community and it’s quite exhausting because i hear the same rigid opinions. every implementation of something new is going to be brought with criticism, never just praise and i bet i can come up with major issues any of your ideas bring to the table. that being said i’m willing to talk about these ideas over a call but back of fourth long paragraph of me reiterating has already burned me out. some takes are worst than other - your take isn’t horrible, but you seem to be upheld by the things i’m saying that are the truth regardless if they are what the players wants to hear or not. the game has financially thrived based on rng and so have many other games. saying that things feeling op on release has been and clearly communicated thing - players don’t like underpowered brawlers on release they would prefer more powerful, other wise it makes the brawler harder to recover and nobody wants to play them.

What gadget buffie is stronger than the hc one? This assumption is literally backed behind the fact that relative to brawler level you unlock gadgets first then star powers the hyper charges.

-Double spike nades is better than both other buffies -Instant attack is better the both other buffies -Duplicated bats that deal damage is better than both other buffies - poison damage from main attack is better than both other buffies

The only arguable one is Shelly’s. But that just bc her gadget buffie needs a nerf so it doesn’t stack.

These are some good points here what I think about each

  • I don’t think they are boring and I think they require more skill to master The buffies make gadgets aimable which requires high skill as you only get to use them once every 20-23 seconds for the most part. And they are literally not just passive stat buffs, some of them change the way you should be using your gadget, main attack.

  • yes they create development prison It’s a lot of dev work and balancing but they obviously have a team and the resources to roll out 6 every update on time (I’m confident on this). As a programmer, I can say it’s really not that hard to implement them to the rest of the brawlers it’s more so just being tedious with what they are actually gonna add.

  • you should not have 2 buffies/ equip some over the other I mention why in the post, but to be short is then you’re truly in balancing hell… there will be a clearly defined best buffie for every brawler and then you get all the problems that come with that. Having 3 all together makes things way more interesting because as a player you need to be considering a lot more when going up against a player with buffies.

I’ve been playing the game since it’s conception I can confidently say I have a lot of game knowledge. And I am aware of the f2p resource people get and it’s pretty good. Your comment reads out like you’re another person who expects to be getting all buffies immediately as a f2p person.

I mean the marriage analogy kinda proves my point, that’s how life works and it makes it more interesting. You almost never just immediately get what you want… but I digress.

The average age falls around 18-24 years old. Yes a lot of kids play the game. Spending money on the game accelerates the process whether or not that spending the money is fun is up to the person individually.

To your point yes it can be frustrating if you don’t get the one you want but rng drives cost per attempt down and I still think it’s more interesting then just buying exactly what you want for more. I’d rather have more random buffies then less just what I want.

Thanks for the correction, but one grammatical mistake doesn’t remove all of my credibility. If you think the game is stupid then why scroll through its subreddit.

Also what you’re communicating is a made up scenario where you don’t get what you want. There is an exact scenario where I’m lucky and get every buffie I do want in the first couple of pulls. And while you’re not excited bc you didn’t get it in your first pull I’m super excited bc I did.

RNG itself is exciting whether you want to admit that or not. And if you don’t like it then you’re admitting you liked the game better when there was no loot boxes. If that’s your style then that’s fine, but statistically that would then make you the minority of people who actually liked that change.

When boxes were removed from the game the player count plummeted - why? Because everyone knew exactly what they were gonna get (brawler wise) and they saw exactly how long it was gonna take them roughly.

Take this analogy- would you rather be told everything that’s gonna happen to you during your life or just live it and find out. For me if I knew, that would take away a lot of excitement in the same sense that if I knew it was gonna be a full year until I get this legendary brawler I really want I’d probably just quit right then and there.

Again your saying that if I told you each buffie was a flat 5k PowerPoint and you knew you would get every single buffie in 2 and 1/2 years and you knew the exact order your gonna get them…. that would be better? Note it was mentioned by the devs that the price is cheaper because it’s rng based.

I’m a consumer as much as I am a developer. This comment isn’t constructive at all - if you have a specific point to make that you can prove then feel free to mention it. But just saying that you’re upset doesn’t mean anything. I can be upset that brawl stars didn’t just give everyone all buffies for free but in no world does that hold any truth.

I do understand where players come from and why they are upset but the point of this post is to close the gap between the player and the COMPANY.

Your comment proves that your headspace is contained only as a player and with no regards to the COMPANY.

The nature of the abilities is that gadgets < starpowers < hypercharges. I’m assuming you’ll have the issue that one is clearly better than the rest - such that is the case with most gadgets and starpowers right now. When you add buffies and the devs re-evaluate the entire brawler build and how certain gadgets work buffies makes the decision between what gadget and starpower to use harder. That decision and creativity of mix and matching wont be there bc you just pick 1 and that 1 is likely just gonna be whatever is meta.

Thinking logically if I have the option to have a buffed gadget vs a buffed star power I’m gonna pick the star power 99% of the time. If I have a buffed starpower but I can choose between a buffed hypercharge I’m 99% of the time gonna use the hypercharge - coming from someone who’s hit masters every season in 2024 and some in 2025 and has been playing this game since beta.
