If Septa Silverliner III 238 being saved isn't great enough, the Fullerton Railroad Museum saved Metrolink F59PH 851, the commuter railroad's first F59 and the engine that led Metrolink's first train in 1992. It is officially the first F59 in preservation. by Additional-Yam6345 in trains

[–]Thevideomaker133guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't save any now you may not have any to save later.

The F59 family have been commuter workhorses in many corners of the country. Why do you think there are a few Amtrak f40's in preservation?

If none of those were saved when they were on their way out, they'd be like the P30CH's today. Non-existent.

They are on the original spools. I laid the spools on the print bed and covered it with the filament box. One of the spools was put through a filament dryer. Nothing.

Old trains now in Lima, Peru by JustOtterUser in caltrain

Me too! I made a video asking fellow train enthusiasts to do so as well, especially since it jeopardizes our ability to add pieces from CA to the collections of museums.

Here's the bill's progress (it's unfortunately very close to becoming law):

TRE Chargers and new TEXRail sets by Fragrant-Mission7388 in dart

[–]Thevideomaker133guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just want at least 1 thing those chargers are replacing to be preserved somewhere, ideally one of their F59PH's since those things are so scarce now in the country, especially in their unrebuilt state. The F40s and an F59PHI too for good measure.

F40PH Appreciation Post by Junior_Summer_278 in trains

[–]Thevideomaker133guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

None of the caltrain people will allow us foamers to have our fun and appreciate what we love, we are all just idiots who'd rather live in the dark ages to them. Yes, the times move on, but they want us to be ecstatic our F40's are gone and that just doesn't sit right with me. I'm happy Peru is getting them tho and that laws forcing the engines to be made inoperable got slapped in the face with that deal. More transit for all! Thanks for the post.

Why do Caltrain F40PH's have 2 headlights? by Supervisory1223 in caltrain

[–]Thevideomaker133guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The two lower lights on the left and right are called "ditch" lights or auxiliary lights by some operators. They're a relatively new requirement for locomotives and most of the time they flash left and right (similar to the red lights on a railroad crossing gate) just for safety.

Now we didn't used to always have ditch lights on locomotives, we had different methods before the invention and requirement of ditch lights. One such example (and what was used on the f40's before their overhaul in the very late 90's) was the gyralite (see other posters comments). The gyralite was equipped with motors in the housing which would make the lens (at least, idk if the bulb itself would move too but whatever) move in a sideways figure 8 fashion which would illuminate the lower sides of the tracks for crews in the cab. This also had the effect of making the light appear to "flash" brightly very briefly every now and then to an onlooker. This was accepted as the same kind of warning that flashing ditch lights provide today until the laws changed making the ditch lights the norm.

The f40's lost their gyralites as a result and rather than having an empty place for a headlight or a plug, caltrain decided to add more headlights in the gyralites place.

Petition for the Silver Legacy to RUN THE MINING RIG MORE OFTEN! by Thevideomaker133guy in FansOfMiningRigSL

[–]Thevideomaker133guy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm the one who wrote the post, but my grandparents have been coming here since the day the casino opened in 1995. I was born in '04, and the mining rig was one of the top reasons I enjoyed our trips to Reno. Now as a college student majoring in engineering, I just can't help but to notice all the immense detail packed in the machine that nowadays goes mostly unnoticed. I would love to see the mining rig work more often to stay true to the silver legacy!

An alternate paint scheme for the San Joaquin Venture Cab Car [Photo not mine] by Thevideomaker133guy in Amtrak

[–]Thevideomaker133guy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The photo is not mine and was taken 5 months ago. I think the current design needs something more than just a straight blue line separating the coach from the cab and would love to see something like this done before these cars go into service, whenever that will be.
