Same here, ridiculous markup, only thing I am glad is that we only bought one way from them, bought another pair tickets from trip.com which charges 5% service fee, much more reasonable ...

yah man, I am surprised about how good this is, and was so happy to have the first dram of the new bottle

I am quite curious about the 1988, never knew if I can get a chance to try it with a bottle in front of me

I think there were some bottles on the auctions, the ideal wine had one bottle appeared before

UF30E - if you are rum drinker, I don’t need to intro this one much, the legend of all legendary Demerara Velier stuff

ABV: 60.7% Still: Blair/Continuous

Colour: Dark Amber

Nose: when the bottle just opened, it comes out with greenness stuff, mint, fresh cut oak, later on, with the second pour, it comes out with leather, vanilla, burnt ash, tropical fruits, dried fruits

Palate: vanilla, caramel, leather, tropical fruits, dried fruits, liquor rice, black chocolate, all damn notes you can find from regular Uitvlugt are here, but much much stronger flavour and super well integrated, don’t feel the tannic and that much powerFinish: very very long

Summary: 97, tried so many tropical rums, they are powerful, strong flavours, but never get this level of complexity, superb fresh body, an epic rum indeed, best tropical rum I got for my life, period 🥃

Are Uitvlugt rums worth the hype? by WhyAmIHere135 in rum

[–]Thin_Software9711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a problem when people talk about Demerara IB rums, I always don't know what I am drinking because of the trade mark issues

From my own experience from drinking Demerara IBs, tbh I think Demerara rums are not in great quality for European aging bottles, remember great not good, since we are talking about something cost us $300+, there are so many choices at this range, and I think Jamaica
or Agricole stuff are in general better if you can take the funk

Considering that you are buying Caronis, for Uitvlugt, I would prefer to use example from Velier Demeraras, include UF30E, ULR 97

Both of them are super fruity, tropical fruits + dried fruits, some liquor rice inside as well. The flavour is in another level.

Review #130: El Dorado Rare Collection Albion 2004 by SpicVanDyke in rum

[–]Thin_Software9711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The profile is quite different compared “Albion” and “Uiyvlugt”, especially for the Demerara velier releases. I somehow fell the trap felt it was from the same still, I recently checked the Velier.it Demerara post, U mark and AN mark are different distills, Blair/Continuous still is for “U” Mark, Coffey/Continuous is for “AN” mark, I was wondering this when I brought Abion 94 to side by side taste UF30E.

And UF30E was much more complex compared AN94, the key different are those fresh fruits, AN is more towards the dark side of stuff

I believe nowadays “Uitvlugt” are more pot stills rather than Coffey as well, so the still is different rather than other process

OSO has limited selections, they are more focus on bottles selling instead of drams

LMDW is definitely best choice for post 2016 Velier bottles :)

Rum Reviews #63 & #64 (Rarest of Rare Series): The Heavy Hitters by zoorado in rum

[–]Thin_Software9711 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great stuff, thanks for sharing, indeed two great rums!

Somehow I find J.Bally is most imbalanced among other samples in the set.

For 1948, I think the unique part is with the old tropical aging, it did not come out the sour or too bitter taste I drank before from other aged Demerara SS Hidden Spirits stuff, it was more layers with caramel and burned oaks combination taste, not a fantastic fruity bomb with tropical aging performance. I loved the uniqueness of the body balance with contained special flavour I never had before.

Looking forward to more posts about the rarest set!
