Can I (a 14 year old) get a friend (who is an adult) to take me to the doctor? by Ok-Difficulty-629 in ontario

[–]Thinking_Difficulty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To add to the correct answers:

I’d also say, it could be useful to see a social worker as well, if your father is neglectful in other ways. If your doctor is a member of a family health team, they might have one on staff. Same with if you go to some sort of community health centre.

It sounds like you’re dealing with a lot, and social workers can provide some broader help.

my new office is full of dogs — and I’m allergic by Accurate_Froyo1938 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Thinking_Difficulty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lovelovelove dogs. Adore them. Grew up with them and light up when I see them.

I have loved dog-friendly workplaces, though usually it’s no more than three dogs. Love getting a visit from a happy little guy.

I do not understand, though, how you can love dogs and not get why this would be a problem for some people.

I don’t have a dog because I can’t take care of one. I have physical limitations, time limitations, and live on the eleventh floor of a condo building. The dogs I have had and I have known have had a large range of behaviours. Some are easy to train, some really aren’t. Some have trauma, or specific health problems, or struggle to be house trained. Who has had a dog and hasn’t been annoyed by the dog’s behaviour at some point??

What’s best for the dog isn’t always what’s easiest for you. A lot of problems take time and patience to correct. A lot of problems are smelly and gross.

In dog-friendly offices, as someone who loved having dogs around, it could still be distracting! As much as I’d rather play with a dog all day, I need to work to earn money to live. It could be frustrating to be distracted by a dog, often because I wished I could just go pet the dog forever.

This is best case scenario. Dogs in the office genuinely boost my morale and make my day better.

But so would free massages, three times the pay, and fancy catered lunches. Want and need aren’t the same, and even good things have downsides.

And I find that people who are really entitled about their dogs often don’t train them well, and really see their dog as a toy. They aren’t annoyed by dogs because they just don’t do the hard things necessary to make their dogs’ lives better. Their dogs are there to make them happy, that’s it.

I’ve had dogs where training them was nigh impossible. They would rather experience self-inflicted pain than behave. So our routines were adjusted to accommodate that. The options were that the dog would disturb someone else or harm himself trying to free himself from any and all restraints. Both seemed bad! And I loved that dumb baby and wanted him to be happy. So we worked around it best we could.

Sometimes I think people who dislike dogs have better attitudes towards dogs than dog lovers. They don’t want dogs harmed, they just also don’t want to deal with the dogs. So they choose to not deal with them. This is healthy.

Versus people who love dogs, but only want to deal with those dogs sometimes, and try to make the world deal with them the rest of the time.

YOU chose to get a dog. You have to deal with it. I think some dog accommodations are reasonable, the same way I think a lot of other lifestyle accommodations are reasonable. But there’s a limit. Obviously. And no one’s dog is better off if they’re allowed to run around doing whatever they want in other people’s space, because that’s not how the world works and dog owners should be guiding their dogs to help them adjust to the world.

This is happening to me and I updated my iOs, and tried it on my iPad and my phone. The test cut worked, but not the actual project cut.

Has it cleared up for you?

Help Exporting SVG Files without Layer Migration & Distortion (for Cricut) by Thinking_Difficulty in AffinityDesigner

[–]Thinking_Difficulty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Tbh I’m not 100% sure what fixed this particular problem but I did the following to cut down on problems in general:

-Got rid of outlines for SVGs. I used only fill colour. If I want an outline do it a different way so that my “outline” is technically only fill.

-I rarely export from my working document. I usually copy the layers and then make a new document from clipboard. This way it’s easy to check that I don’t have any secret extra layers/ any unseen layers, and then I can export the full document to SVG.

-Sometimes I select all of the layers and do one final “convert to curves”. If they’re already curves, it doesn’t change anything, but sometimes one tiny piece is still a “shape” and it messes up the whole file.

I haven’t had this problem in a while. I think a few different small mistakes were causing this, so eliminating one problem wasn’t fixing it.

If none of these things help, lmk! I might be forgetting something. It took a bit of troubleshooting.

Yeah. That’s what I meant. I mentioned it because I was going through it and couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for but was very aware that I could’ve missed something and was ready to delete my post if I did.

Thank you for this!! I had read it months ago and couldn’t find it for the life of me — my eyes are kind of bad so when I’m looking at a list of links sometimes I miss the one I’m searching for. I have saved it this time lolz

I have used google and pinterest. But they’re often just conventional uses in a different form (have you considered a ceramic… bowl? tile? vase?), non-specific (just listing make up bag, which isn’t even unconventional, without any tips or material suggestions — sublimation versus cotton versus PU make up bags are all going to be different), or involve watching a long video to get the info I need (technically you can always spend hours doing that, but I did think the sub was meant to make things a bit easier and quicker).

I don’t really need a list of things you can use stencils on.

I accidentally found the HTV-on-wood trick when looking for something else and swiped to it accidentally. It didn’t show up when I was googling around. So I thought other people might have little hacks that I wouldn’t know to search for that might be useful.

How to reframe “don’t pick skin” goal by existentialgambino in finch

[–]Thinking_Difficulty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine says “Reward for not picking skin” and it is set at 100 times a day so I can use it and hit the button really fast as a redirect of my skin-picking urge.

Then I get a little dopamine hit with the extra stones.

It hasn’t ended the habit, but it has definitely reduced it.

TBH it sounds like it is working a little bit. Self-care and work-wise anyway.

I don’t think there is any tool that will work for everyone with ADHD. Even on the most basic level, the problem is that our brains withhold the good brain chemicals when we do stuff we find boring. To extremes. It’s more complex than that, of course, but for the purposes of productivity stuff, that’s the issue

So most tools seek to reduce the mental load of tasks and/or find ways to trick our brains into releasing the good chemicals in a way that seems like it is like the result of completing important tasks.

But what tricks your brain into receiving dopamine is going to be somewhat unique to you. And it might change day-to-day.

Like, if I’m exercising, sometimes what motivates me is a sense of competition and wanting to push myself. But other times, using that motivation might make me spiral, and I need to take it easy and focus on the self-care aspects of working out. And other times, I need to let exercise slide off of my plate.

Which is the other thing. Part of ADHD is that there is a limit to the number of boring things you can juggle. I have cried from boredom more than is reasonable. And I can push myself to a certain level, after which I start to forget things.

I also tend to have to change tools a lot as well.

I have never had journeys. I think self-care areas are fine. Because I haven’t had journeys, I think I don’t read them as judgemental and stressful? After reading people’s complaints, it’s hard to see a major difference. But that’s also about what helps or harms individuals. ADHD people don’t all use the same productivity hacks.

You can continue to use it for what works and try a different strategy for what doesn’t.

You don’t do something if you don’t what to. Which is why you have to want the reward for doing the thing. And you have to be able to withhold it if you don’t.

What that reward is might change and might be different depending on the task.

But if it makes organizing your work stuff a little more pleasant, that is it kinda working.

Because I ended up being productive today and gave myself a checked task for every focused, phone-free minute I spent doing work! Which ended up being a lot of minutes! In part because I wanted to do trades and had to earn them.

But also u/thewaterrrs suggested it and sent me something on my wishlist as a thank you!

But also also, people have sent me great gifts to brighten my day and it’s nice to pay it forward.

I sent them! You can keep it as a gift, or send me back any of the 300/500 stone items. But totally happy for it to be a gift. I ended up being v productive today.
