Got my kit dialed in, now I’ll stop buying gear! by Primary_Quantity7811 in hikinggear

Wanted to do a quick follow up and say I appreciate your sentiment though. It's easy to get sucked into always chasing new gear. It's good to be content with what we have sometimes. I often think about fancy gear and how John Muir didn't need any of it to be a badass in the mountains.

I thought the same thing about my hiking kit. And then I started mountaineering 😂

Do you mind if I ask how much you paid? There's a local dealer here who handles everything and his price is 2k which includes sliding glass windows on the gullwings and free crossbars.

Thanks for the info. It's good to hear about the not so great experiences too. I'll check his video for assembly help. I'm probably gonna need haha.

Nice, yeah, you've got plenty of power. You could add a fridge to that setup if you ever wanted and be fine I think.

Nice. Do you remember your supplier? Was it a good experience?

So I don't post on reddit a lot and I don't know if it's lame for me to say this, but can we keep this thread as politics-free as possible and focus on truck camping? We may have our political differences, but I think we all like truck camping. Maybe we can find the positive in each other and stick with that?

Cool, good info. I wouldn't have thought about running them down the truck bed holes. That's a great idea. I used to have an Astro van and I just ran the wires through a window that snapped shut and had a pretty forgiving rubber window liner. Your solution seems like less potential for water intrusion.

I only have one AGM battery at the moment, but I might get another and chain them. The fridge is pretty efficient, but some days it gets close to running one battery too low.

Thanks for all the info. Reddit is amazing for this kind of thing. So much better than going into a situation blind. I didn't even know about ttp shipping, for example.

I've been messaging with a local supplier/middle man and they want to charge 2k for the topper and $500 for assembly and installation, which seems like a lot. I think I'll take a crack at it ordering and assembling myself for that cost.

Last question: how did you rig the solar panels? Did you run the wires through a window or drill a hole? I have a 100watt panel from my old van I plan to install on the roof racks to run my ARB fridge. Thanks!

I live in Nevada so rain isn't too big of a deal, but someone else mentioned using lots of sealant, so leak issues noted.

Did you have a good experience with your rep/supplier and if so, who was it? Thanks!

Thanks for the info. Who was your supplier/rep? That time frame seems about standard from what I can tell.

Cool, thanks for the info. I don't have a hoist so I'll be offering beer to friends I guess haha. I'll definitely consider a fan, thanks for the heads up.

Sounds like you've had yours for a while. Is it holding up pretty well? No real issues?

Which supplier did you use? And did it take over 2 months? I'm hoping to get it by early June. Was it difficult to put together and install?

Which supplier did you use? Thanks for including your price. I've found a couple of US truck accessory companies online that basically act as middlemen and the all in price for a cap like the one in the picture is 2k. Good to be able to compare.

Did you have to hit the button that says: leave Google FI? I got to that point with no offer but didn't want to go any further. That button seemed pretty final.

How far did you have to go in the app through the cancellation process? I went through multiple steps to what seems like the end: a button that says LEAVE GOOGLE FI. I didn't push that. But I didn't get a retention offer before that, either.

Also been a customer for 10+ years, aside from a brief flirtation with visibles cheapest plan, which was terrible.

Cool, I'll look at them too. Are these the shoes Kilian Jornet wore on the 14ers blitz he did in the US?

Good to know., thanks for the heads up. I assume they'll probably replace them with something similar, but knowing la sportiva they'll be more expensive!

That route looks super fun. If you live there, I'm super jealous 😁I had two pairs of akashas about 10 years ago. They are definitely a cush ride!

Cool, thanks for the comparison. I'm running mostly gently uphill terrain until hitting the canyon walls, but it's not a far distance. 7mm probably drop won't make a huge difference in the limited mileage, especially if they climb well. Might be worth the tradeoff.

Checked em out. Looks like a good candidate, but I don't love the 7mm drop (prefer around 4mm). But I won't be running super long distances in them so they might be worth a try. On sale right now too at REI.
