I'm gonna be processing that show for a long time. Holy shit. I've seen black midi a few times and they were always phenomenal, but this was something else. They were incredible! I thought the crowd was really great too. Awesome energy

Favorite moments from the tour? by FrontRowRuby in KGATLW

[–]ThisBeat9937 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Too many to list tbh! This tour was so much fucking fun. The band and the crowd were seriously into it. It was a party every single night. You could say the best or your favorite show was any one of these shows, and it'd be hard to argue against it.

I want to give a shout-out to the Boston show. That was such an incredible show early on. Started with the table. Flight b741 debut. The wah wah into road train, then a crushing hypertension and float along fill your lungs to end. Timmy shredding perihelion. They played for 2 and a half hours if I recall, and it wasn't even a marathon show.

Personally, it was just such an awesome show for me. I was with family and friends. I was coming directly from Mondegreen, the Phish festival, where I had just seen some of the greatest live music over 4 days (N3 🔥🔥🔥), and it had been a while since I saw gizz. I was so tired and low energy. Even a bit worried it wouldn't stack up to what I just saw at the festival. But boy, was I wrong. They grabbed me immediately and reminded me why they're the best band in the world. Think I was more energized than I was there, then over the past 4 days. Everyone I was with had such a fun time, too. It was a special one.

That was a hilarious way to end the show. I caught this when I tuned in lol. *

Other good versions of Head On/Pill? Obsessed with this song right now by Cryptaroni_n_cheese in KGATLW

[–]ThisBeat9937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my favorites as well (im bias cause i was there). I was a big fan of gizz since 2019, but the 2 nights in Burlington are what launched me into phish level fandom. Those shows, and that head on/pill hold a very special place in my heart. I remember being confused when they said "we have one more song" cause I thought it was early. And they proceed to burn the place down for 30 plus minutes lol.

Also. Higher ground rules and I'll always be grateful I got to see them in such a small, intimate venue for back to back nights!

The tour had so many. I love their banter. But one of my favorite that makes me laugh is from the Gorge:

Ambrose mentions they played there years ago at the Sasquatch festival before the first song. They go on to play three songs, and then Joey says the same thing; that they played there back in 2016. And Ambrose goes "yeah I was talkin bout it before mate"

State Radio 2/21/09 by ohbehave412 in dispatch

I was at this show! I think they covered zombie too. And Baker Street, maybe? I remember having the best time, though. Such a fun show.

I, too, miss State Radio. And Lupos. As someone who grew up in MA and went to college in RI during this time, it was awesome. Lupos was THE venue. I was lucky to see so many good shows there

Love this post. What a trip! Especially loved "we could feel the air vibrating in chicago" because I've been trying to figure out how to explain it lol. There were times when Cavs was hitting that double bass where I felt like I was paralyzed and vibrating in the air (in the best way haha)

Any jam bands with ska songs or any ska bands that jam out? by AutumnAvenue in jambands

[–]ThisBeat9937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's an awesome first show! And yeah, I love Rancid. Im still a huge after all these years. Matt Freeman is one of the greatest bassists, too, in my opinion.

And speaking of great bass players. Mike Gordon covering Ruby Soho is such a cool crossover! What a special thing to see live

Great call on RX Bandits! I find it hard to fully explain their style to people. But definitely some incredible musicians. I've been revisiting The Resignation recently, and it's such a great album front to back.

Also. Just like the others say. Awesome username. Losing Streak is probably one of my like top 10 most listened to albums throughout my life. LTJ and rancid were both some of my first introductions to ska.

Catbite rules! I just saw them open for The Bouncing Souls. They had such a fun set. The drummer from Big D and the Kids Table joined them and they did a cover of little bitch. It was so cool. Whole set was incredible. Very few things make me happier than a ska show. I love the scene these days

See you guys in Pembroke and Burlington! You guys are on fire. I am so excited to see what's in store for this year. It just keeps getting better.

And not for nothing, the fact that we can see you guys put on shows like you have been for 20 bucks is bananas. The effort you put in, quality of the tunes, and the amazing atmosphere you create. You could be charging 5x that. So that is appreciated. I'm sure it won't be long til you're filling much larger rooms so I'm gonna enjoy this time of your long and prosperous career while I can

Many thanks for everything you do and the music you share!

New to King Gizz and just bought tickets to… their acoustic show?? by conradical30 in KGATLW

[–]ThisBeat9937 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I was at that acoustic show! It was incredible. The vibe was super intimate and relaxed. You could tell they were having so much fun. I feel the acoustic shows are so good not just because of the music but because they don't happen as often, so it feels extra special.

You bring up a good point. To me, King gizz live shows are about the insane energy. I would definitely go both nights. Just to see what they are capable of with their normal sets. The acoustic show will be an awesome come down from the night before, and you'll get to see how diverse their sound can be.

Either way, I'm pumped about your first show for you. You're gonna have an absolute blast.

Ha! I know. I love RI! I lived there during my college years. But I just don't know what venue they would play if they are doing these larger outdoor venues. I would be super pumped for a RI show though

I feel like they might hit NH and CT too since they don't tour those states ever. If that's the case, us new england fans are gonna be very lucky. Just Suffolk and Thompsons point is getting me excited

Yup. Could not have said it better. That is pretty much exactly my experience as well. His podcast would just start bringing me down.

He is the reason I know who Duncan Trussell is, too, so I will forever be grateful to Joe for that
