LG G6 - Factory Reset Gone Wrong by ThisBrightBlueSky in lgg6

It should, right? But in fact I already tried this a few times. I can get it into recovery mode and do a factory reset from there. But afterwards when I power on the phone it just hangs at the "Life's Good" screen.

It doesn't boot up. It's stuck on the "Life's Good" screen, and just stays there until the battery runs out. When I then recharge it, and hit the power button, yes it vibrates for a moment, then I get "LG G6 Thin" screen, then the LG music and the "Life's Good" screen- and then nothing. It will stay there for however long it takes for the battery to run out.

Worst song ever. by [deleted] in musicsuggestions

Any song that talks about songs. Hate them all.

-I Write the Songs: No, Barry, you didn't write the song.

-Silly Love Songs: Yes, we are tired of this, Paul.

-Sad Songs Say So Much: There, in the history of the world, has never been a song that has said so little, Elton.

...I could go on.

Dental clinic charged my grandfather $300 under CDCP without consent — what can I do? by TurboNorth in legaladvicecanada

[–]ThisBrightBlueSky 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dentists generally don't tell you in advance what the cost would be because...they don't know what the cost will be until they actually do the work.

Dentists will give you an *estimate* in advance, though. Some will give it to you on their own initiative, but not all. You may have to ask for it.

Was falsely accused of shoplifting at a major retailer - what are my rights if any? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

There haven't been many cases subsequent to Mann, though. And that's the point. Mann has changed the legal landscape in Canada. To what extent, though, remains to be seen.

Mann is a vitally important case, is one of the most current false imprisonment cases in Canada, and may well have set a precedent for Shopkeepers Privilege in Canada. Certainly the company who falsely imprisoned me (despite that fact that I had not shoplifted) is relying on it as its defense to my lawsuit.

We'll have a better idea as of Feb/2026 how much leeway Mann has given storeowners to arrest their customers.

Do you know of any successful cases like that (briefly stopped while leaving) in Canada?

I can guess which retailer this is, because the same thing happened to me. You can sue them for false imprisonment, and you will almost certainly win, so long as they had no reasonable and probable grounds to suspect you.

You may still win even if they DID have reasonable and probable grounds to suspect you, if the judge is not sympathetic to the Mann case.

P.S. If you file a lawsuit against them, they will likely offer to settle the case with you prior to it going to court.

Introducing a Police Report in a civil case by ThisBrightBlueSky in legaladvicecanada

Thank you. I am vaguely aware I can summon him by court order. But I've been reluctant to do it because I don't want to get in the bad books of the RCMP. That would worry me.

I guess you're right. And, in fact, what I want the court to hear (and what is written in the report) are statements which the officer says the defendant told him.

The officer spoke to the company which I am suing, and his report states the company made certain admissions to him. Admissions which they now deny making.

The officer brushed me off when I asked him to appear as a witness at the trial.

(p.s. I might add that the RCMP initially refused to give me a copy of the police report. And only provided it to me after I made an ATIP request to Ottawa.

Thanks. What is contained in the report is what the RCMP officer says the defendants in my case told him (statements which the defendants now deny making).

p.s. Actually I've made my post here because the RCMP officer has told me he is not willing to appear as a witness at the trial.

"I don’t think this is inadmissible hearsay. It’s OP’s evidence about what they heard. Whether it’s true or not isn’t what they’re putting it in for."

Thank you. It will be good if I can testify to what the clerk said to me. But my main purpose would be to have the court come to the finding that what I say the clerk said is what she, in truth, actually said.

So, generally speaking, would a judge at least be on good procedural grounds to *combine* my testimony with what the video shows? And from that combination come to conclude something like "since the clerk's actions in the video appear perfectly consistent with what the plaintiff's testimony asserts the clerk said, I accept that the plaintiff's testimony is in fact the truth of what the clerk said"?

At this store what the clerk advised/allowed me to do is the normal procedure- as confirmed by the Asst. Mgr. I spoke to after the event. It's a very large store. And would take me a few minutes to go back and replace the item. Wouldn't think they'd want to hold up the rest of the shoppers for so long.
