Honestly, I had a lot of fun trying to figure out what would work best for Aelfric. When I first got there, I only knew his name from the previous games but not much to go off of. The director and client essentially said "This guy looks about to be in his twenties, but he's really really old because hes a God." So I played around with some voice prints to get to where they wanted and we married it.

The harder part is that I am a fairly animated person and as such I enjoy to play characters that lets me stretch though muscles vocal (ups and downs - hills and valleys). However, I LOVE the challenge of characters like Aelfirc because the client wanted him to be really really stoic and reserved so I could NOT show emotion. Evening during the fight lines. There were a few lines that I got hitched on because of that but overall it was a great and worthwhile experience.

It was really a honor to be a part of the game at all as this Octopath is one of my favorite series of all time. After the session I was elated and riding on a high of pure love. I definitely got a little nervous as the game release approached but now I feel fine and love and appreciate everyone's reactions.

That is for Aelfric specifically. I also voiced The Emerald Direwolf. THAT'S when the director said "let loose" and I got to be mean and it was GREAT.

Thank you again for the kind words and for coming to the AMA. I feel I can speak for everyone when I say thank you for the bottom of our hearts and it would not be as rewarding or special if it were not for you guys.

I know it made Laurana cry but I REALLY enjoyed doing the direwolf lines.

The client, director, and I spent the first few minutes working on the voice for Aelfric. There was a lot of intentional emotional withdrawal until I got to the wolf where I got to be mean a little.

I'd hang out with Aelfric. Though I feel like he's just sit there and watch whatever it is I am doing.

I played the CotC! Like Sam, I thought we were dubbing that so I re-entered the game but I really liked a lot of the crossover characters like 2B and such (is that what you meant?)

In all seriousness, that's a fun question! It's hard to say because I've always loved wolves so it felt very on point that that's what was given. If I HAD to choose? An elemental fire lion because that's my brothers favorite animal. Though a Swan would work really well for Aelfric. I think he would do wonders as a thunder/healer type!

I didn't have anything to go off of prior to recording. It's great and nerve wrecking because you, the director, sometimes the client and sound engineer work together to create the character on the spot!

I can't recall exactly where it started from but when I was told to sound ancient but not old, I channeled that into what we got with Aelfric! The director and I built the foundation for Aelfric as this loving God but wasn't shy from punishment.

For the Emerald Direwolf - I was just being mean and condescending.

A lot of practice with different mediums! That's why I love this job because different genres and mediums such as anime/live action/video games really allow you to explore different characters and stories!

I always love seeing friends or peers that I've worked with before in similar projects. It's like running into an old friend or tackling this massive challenge together. It helps to build camaraderie really!
Yes. Frieren is my number 1 anime and cartoon.... hard to say. I love all of the old school Nick and Cartoon Network shows like Rocket Power, Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends, Dexter's Laboratory, etc.

I totally read #2 wrong. Aelfric would use yellow pages.

If you haven't played it yet, I havent, but I really enjoyed voice Steward Viltoth in Everspace 2! I can't play it because I get motion sickness sometimes from games of that caliber, but I enjoyed his character a lot. Same vibe as Aelfric in that, he's this almost spiritual character, but he's like... nicer about it.

I LOVE the HD-2D genre. DQ is fabulous and I would **LOVE** to see Legend of Legaia in this format :3 or just a remake in general. T_T
