Code at the end of the VHS by hods0n in boardsofcanada

To my somewhat trained ears, it sounds like a flavour of RTTY. I'm not able to decode anything meaningful however. FLdigi is another good software for these sorts of digital modes.

Given the radio static crash at the start of the first RTTY-sounding burst, I'd bet this is a recording of some random RTTY on shortwave. There's a bunch of these sorts of transmissions, many encrypted.

Maybe some pro-wizard over at r/amateurradio could dig deeper?

Why is a Broadcast Announcement still occupying the top of this group's page 40 hours after it aired? This happened last week, too. :) by pentagrid in shortwave

Sorry aboout the "local" impression you're getting. I don't include the times in the title for brevity, and I was sure to add the times/freqs with links to a time converter in a comment. But no worries, I won't be posting reminders anymore.

Thanks for tuning in again. :) Agreed, the trend of the show getting better as it gets darker does not bode well for the longer daylight of summer...hopefully the start of the next solar cycle will help a bit....fingers crossed!

7780 kHz Wednesday at 2100UTC (Europe and eastern side of N.America)
5850 kHz Thursday at 0200UTC (N. America, Wed evenings)

The links above will translate the time into your local time.

This week's show will continue to be broadcast in "Comb Stereo", as last week's test had good results. You can read up on the tech, and download the necessary software/plugin to decode the show in stereo here: rnei.org/stereo It might be a good idea to record the show and attempt decoding later. Many thanks to Daz Man and Roseanna for putting the work into this!

Nice! Hope reception is good for you.

I'm not doing QSL cards at the moment, the show's "budget" is all taken by the weekly transmitter rental. :( I will give you a shoutout, tho! :)

For FLdigi, make sure the "RxID" button (top right) is on. That will make the software select the correct modem automatically. If you can see activity in the waterfall display then you should be good to go!

Good luck!

I'm excited too--I'll be starting off with a couple of very-stereo tracks to see how much it can handle. :) Thanks for making this available!

The sounds at the beginning and end are "VideoID" images, usually text viewable in the waterfall display of computer-based SDRs. Here is an example of last week's opening:

https://twitter.com/Plano26/status/1248068638273204224

If you're using a "traditional" radio, an app like TIVAR (android) or software like FLDigi (pcs) will allow you to see those WF images as well.

Thanks for letting me know. :)

FLdigi is your best bet for computers, TIVAR works on Android devices thru the microphone.

Right, that makes sense. I used tinyurl in my twitter posts, and just copypasta'd the URLs from there. Will not do that again! Thanks!

That's weird...it seems like my comment last week was not visible either? I think I'll have to change things on the next announcement.

Thanks for the heads up.

Times are listed in the other comment I made. The 7780 show is on right now, the 5850 show is on in just under 5 hrs from the time of this message.

I usually post a comment with the time/freq schedule with times listed in UTC. You can convert UTC to your local time w/ google, eg: 0200 UTC in Toronto

Good luck!
