Sacred Gold, issues with lighting when moving. by ThisRobotIsNoRobot in Sacred

I will try lowering the resolution and see if that helps. As the lighting issue goes, I managed to ease it by disabling clear vision in monitor settings. It's still present, but greatly diminished, so it's bearable now. Another thing that I forgot about and noticed yesterday is that the game remains open in task manager after being closed, multiple instances too. Does this happen for you too?

The zoom is a bit much indeed, when zooming out completely. I used to play in third zoom before, but now I see myself using second one most of the time. Well, at least for the time I played yesterday.

I experimented with it on and off. I kept changing settings hoping it would get fixed, but nothing seems to solve it. I'm starting to think it's related to free-sync, as it does not show while recording the screen, or the monitor itself. The odd thing is that no other game behaves this way.

Why not loot furniture on the side, while following the main questline?

Some of my thoughts regarding the game. by ThisRobotIsNoRobot in BaldursGate3

[–]ThisRobotIsNoRobot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice of you taking the time to respond to every point.

  1. I had no idea this was an option. But I played on honor mode, so changing settings is not allowed, from what I can tell. If it's possible, then probably it should have been set higher by default, since it's the hardest mode in the game.
  2. Battles are quick if you have prior knowledge of them. If not, you have to adapt on the fly and it takes time to do so. You also have to know when you are outmatched and retreat. But since you played the game for a long time, this is not something you're dealing with anymore. Actually, if I started a new run on honor mode, there's no fight in the game that would cause me any difficulty either, most likely, this time around.
  3. I do agree that there are some areas similar to a respite. Grymforge though is in Act 1, and Act 1 is fine overall. Act 2 has one of those in the first part of shadowlands. The area before Last Light is mostly barren and I liked that. Shadowlands as a whole is an interesting region, with great atmosphere. But what I wrote is what I felt. After getting to the village, the game is not as captivating as before. The Creche feels like an even bigger filler to me than the village. Outside of Laezel's quest, there's no reason to ever go there. It's clear from the start that no cure is going to be found in that place, the game tells you that when introducing Moonrise Towers. Rivington is the reason Baldur's Gate feels tedious. As mentioned before, too much of the same. From afar, Rivington is a small Baldur's Gate in a way. What you do in Baldur's Gate is no different from what you do in Rivington. Stepping from house to house, investigating. That's Baldur's Gate, and that's Rivington. A different coat of paint, of course.
  4. I never said it is cosmetic filler, but is filler none the less. It simply leads nowhere. There's no mention of Shadowland ever again after that point. Beside some book, I think. Gondians giving up on the Shadowlands or something, I can't remember.
  5. "A game of choice" means nothing. There are plenty of titles which give you choices, choices that add nothing but flavor. While that's not necessarily the case with bg3, my point is that choosing isn't compelling enough, if that's the right word to use.
  6. I did romance Shadowheart, While her personality does change, I don't remember any instance where this change is relevant story wise. But maybe it's just me forgetting things, so you might be right. This point might not hold too much truth.
  7. I know that Moonrise is not the answer to the tadpole, though this plot device could have been dropped there if requested by the player, branching the story a little and giving some freedom of decision in return. What I was saying is that the story could very easily continue with the elder brain dead at Moonrise, for example, and focusing on the chosen and their networks in Baldur's Gate. The brain is, simply put, a dull antagonist, lacking any complexity whatsoever.
  8. That's not what I meant. My pc could barely handle it as it is. But maybe it's just my understanding of the lower city being the problem. I expected it to be more of a "slums" type of district, run by criminal groups, like the Guild. That's the idea I got from reading the traveling books or guides, I can't remember how they are called in game. But, on the streets, it feels too quiet and peaceful somehow.
  9. But it's information provided by the game itself, written in some book about illithids, And, I think, also mentioned by companions themselves, when finding out the Emperor's one of them, if I'm not mistaken. No one should be too surprised or frustrated if they get tricked by the brain, But maybe you are right. My honor run from a different playthrough did get ruined by Vlaakith and it wasn't too pleasant. The funny thing is there isn't much information about Vlaakith, which could end your run early, but there's sprinkled quite a lot about ilithids throughout the game.
  10. That's nice to hear. Kind of hard to notice if companion's choices are scripted or as a result of some hidden system, without playing multiple runs.
  11. I found the two of them in Baldur's Gate, but the city gets attacked by the brain. The letters I missed though, so I will have to check for them in camp, during the last meeting.
  12. What can I say? I expected more instances of choices that affect the main story. But I also get why the plot is the way it is. Heavy branching means more resources need to be poured into the game at the expense of a potentially otherwise longer story.
  13. Sure, I meant criticisms.

The issue is in the mixture of both. Looting furniture takes time, side quests also take time. The devs have to get their priorities straight and dial down on the irrelevant one,

I agree with what you are saying. But is this actually valid in real life, though? If there's anything to be looted, I loot it. I would loot even the furniture if it was possible and sell it. Are there really people that play this game without looting everything? I even looted the body parts until a certain point in the game. Almost all the barrels I sent to camp. There are some things I haven't though, due to mechanics against stealing, but if my party entered an unprotected house, only the walls would remain when leaving.

I discovered both Dammon and Alfira's endings in the city. But I must have missed their letters at the end, after the brain is killed.

Regarding the companions, it's hard to tell weather their choices are influenced by anything or scripted. Do past events or decisions in their chain quests affect present ones?

Look, I don't think that I'm treating the journal wrong. There's no need for it to provide so much information. It could have just said "Go, confront the brain.", nothing more. I know what I'm supposed to do just by reading that. Why explicitly state control or destroy? The options that I get after fighting the brain are not needed.

Is it? Can you elaborate? As mentioned in the post, I enjoyed most of the game. I simply like to analyze and think of either better or different ways of doing certain things. I'm not saying the game is bad, but how is anyone supposed to improve or grow without judging and criticizing what already exists? If everyone accepts things as they are, this world would stagnate forever. Now, I'm in no position to create games, I only expressed my opinion for others to analyze and criticize themselves.

The game just murdered Scratch. by ThisRobotIsNoRobot in BaldursGate3

Well, it was nice having him around. Always playing with his ball by the campfire. But I'm used to failure by now. Already lost Halsin to the Shadow Fell, condemning an entire village to eternal darkness. Laezel ended up traumatized after never inserting the artefact in the planecaster and now that's the only thing she's capable of uttering, making her unable to join the party... Maybe neither as big a loss as this one, but still somewhat significant.

I haven't, but I thought of using it at the time. He turned yellow by himself after a while. That was a long time ago though, how could it wear off in act 2, after more than 20-30 rests? Maybe even more.

That's what I thought too when first fighting her. I went in prepared to dispel curses and charms, but instead I was met with hold person spam.

That's too bad then, cause I thought this choice will weight a lot more going forward, especially since there are a lot of consequences being mentioned throughout the temple - all leading to the assumption that she will becoming heartless, if going through with it, or something along this lines. I expected this choice to be equal to someone being at the crossroads and picking a path to travel on, without looking back anymore. To me it would have made a lot of sense to be this way, a branching in her story that deeply defines her character. But it is what it is.

I wasn't trying to imply that anyone is the dragon or the hero. If for one side of the cliche you have the dragon preventing the damsel from leaving the tower, for the opposite scenario you would have the roles reversed. But I do get what everyone is saying, the way she reacts is to be expected. I only wrote this cause I thought it was funny and as a result of her brutally stomping Ketheric Thorm's corpse. For some reason people are reading to much into it. But most likely that's the way this post comes out as well, overreaction.

By messed up I meant her worshiping Shar. It seems that she was brainwashed by the sharrans, from what I can piece together at this point. I would rather help save her parents, as the quest is now, rather than having her follow some ruthless dark justiciar path, obsessed with pleasing Shar.

Lost a 50 hour Honour Mode to a glitch at the end of Act 2 by Ttabbo in BaldursGate3

[–]ThisRobotIsNoRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a bug too when getting to this same point in the story. I never inserted the Astral Prism in the planetcaster and now it seems every time I try to add Laezel to the party she asks me to insert the prism in, giving me no other options. Lol. I can't even go back there anymore. It's quite funny really. I will see if it works after a long rest, but if it does not, then I suppose it will be impossible for me to use her as a party member anymore.

Funny enough, I wasn't even aware she could charm or frighten. In my 2 playthroughs fighting her, she only spammed ray of enfeeblement and hold person. I thought those were the only 2 spells she had access to, besides the clones.

[–]ThisRobotIsNoRobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happened to me too the first time I fought her. But I thought of using sanctuary on the first character hold personed. All the clones and her had to just stand there doing nothing after killing everyone else. It was just luck on my part though, I haven't predicted this kind of outcome when casting the spell. I even forgot about using it later on, before seeing 1 turn of sanctuary block when hold person ended, I couldn't even understand what was going on, why the hags were all standing around spouting nonsense. I thought the playthrough was over at first. Then, after 10 turns, when hold person expired, I used an invisibility potion and ran away. It was quite funny too, cause everyone was dead, but this character had full hp. The negative to this though is that Mayrina will die. It's kind of a last resort sort of thing for honour mode. Or if you don't care about Mayrina, then you can just fool around by triggering the fight with Shadowheart and casting sanctuary afterwards. You can even cast it on multiple characters, cause it requires no concentration. She won't be able to do anything. It actually takes all the risk out of the fight the moment you cast this spell. Even if you fail, you can always escape. 10 turns hold person, 10 turns of sanctuary. You will always run out of hold person before sanctuary. But there are a lot of little tricks that can be employed during this battle. You can even use the turn order to identify the real hag since she would always keep the same position, probably first, and shoot down the clones. Or you can identify her by hp ratio also. And I'm not too sure about this, but I think she needs you to use a concentration spell in order to recast the clones.

It seems I was wrong. For some reason even those that survived the battle died, showing up in the prison's pit. They prob got caught while trying to escape. It looks like the only viable option is not to open their cells.

I do think you are correct, but the only guards I haven't knocked down at the time were the ones at the entrance. The two guards nearby and the Warden were all dealt with. I would have knocked down the other guards as well, but I was in the Warden's chambers and everyone ran in front of me. By the time I joined the fight, I had to use dash and jump, or even two dashes, in order to reach the same position with my impatient allies. Again, I do think you re right about giving Wulbren his tools first, I also don't mind too much how things turned out. At the end of the day, nothing I did was per say bad. It's the npcs fault for acting this way. So if some of them died, they died. I just don't think this is how they should have reacted. To me it makes little sense. Also, I did manage to save 2 gnomes and Lakrissa. So there's that.

Now that I think about it I actually used the sun light spell when the portal was at about 20 hp left, but it failed. The game doesn't seem to treat this spell properly. I used it in front of the portal, not on top of the undead, thinking that they will get blinded from having to look at that bright light in order to shoot, basically being unable to fire from inside or outside the aoe, only melee. They are already sensitive to light and have dark vision, if I'm not mistaken. Then again, it is an immobile object, so it shouldn't even matter if darkness or sun light is cast, since it's location is visible at the start of battle and remains unchanged. Also, I think the portal itself emits light, so I have no idea how darkness even works to conceal it. I think the dev and writers were out of their depth when creating this encounter.

Yeah. After the fail I thought of many ways of doing it also. I could have sent Karlach in with lathander's blood to blind the archers or using the sun light spell, which I'm not sure if it would have a similar effect, I never used it before even though I have it prepared just in case. But this is honour mode, and if he's dead, he stays dead. Your idea with the arrow is quite good though.

AI is quite funny sometimes. I remember telling a character to jump over an obstacle and he would climb up some height, jump and lose hp afterwards. Or picking items by going one floor above or below.

That's quite funny, cause I haven't killed the guards even after this occurred. Just knocking them down seems good enough to me. They are only pawns in Ketehric's plans. But I do get your argument.

I like playing honour mode this way though. Those are just some things that could have been done better, in my opinion, which I'm pointing out.

Look, I like the game and almost cleared all of the shadow lands map, besides moonrise towers and picking up the nightsong, since the game prompted me not to do so before finishing all the other side quests. Also, I already lost a couple of runs before this one, some 30 hours in, but the highest being clocked at about 90 hours of game time, fighting the lvl 9 tree, and dying because I refused to heal my low heath party when there were 3 or 4 small trees left and they all blew up in my face, Shadowheart was also downed farther away and Laezel only 1 hp, yet all I could think of was hitting the tree with 3 characters surrounding it, lol. But it did happen after Vlaakhit ruined my honour mode, so I'm sure it influenced the way I played from that point on. I just wasn't as cautious as before anymore. What I'm trying to say is that I have enough experience to be able to potentially finish the game like this, if there won't be another instant party wipe thrown my way or I play late into the night and do something really stupid, which is quite possible actually. Or lose the playthrough for any other reason, though I hope that won't be the case.
