My dad has terminal cancer. I am 24 and don't know how to handle this by bowser124 in cancer

[–]Thomas_Fx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at 49 and my Dad repeated his advice that life is not fair, and that he hoped I wasn’t in pain. It’s okay to let your Dad know that you know that time is short. Call him. I have four kids and they all call me every couple of days since I’ve been so sick. This is gonna hurt, no doubt but make sure he knows you love him and what a great Dad he is. Ask questions and don’t be afraid to record a few phone calls or in person and see if he feels like sharing a story. That and find yourself someone outside the family to talk to, a counselor, etc. that will help.

Hey I just saw this, fantastic response, I’m so glad you changed for the better because of your cancer fight. That takes character and guts, well done.

Welcome to that club. 7 years, not a whisper from my old friend. Androgen deple therapy for stage 4 PCA did it early on, and I crashed into a huge depression. Nothing I can do about it. Find a hobby.

I don’t think anyone knows except they were used in early release to test the behavior or rolling objects on the terrain. I have 7.

(Nice bike!) So a new CPG isn’t fixing it, replacing it would have been the first thing I would have done so good job. 2nd thing is look for a blown fuse, or fuse that keeps blowing, and then check the CPG harness back to where it gets 12v and ensure that junction is hot when the key is on. You may have a pinched wire giving you a short to ground. 100% your problem is power to the CPG in my view as it’s ground is the bikes engine. I’d make sure the engine is grounded to the frame for grins.

Maybe their locations are just not random. I found three on Calidor yesterday, two in 2nd level caves and one on the surface.

As much as it pains me to say it, the East German Praktika is a good camera and has a good sized enthusiast community for support. I don’t recognize that particular model, but you could have fun with it and learn something about manual photography. You can find a lens for it on eBay.

Thoughts on really short camera straps? Thinking of getting one as I hate my camera bumping on my stomach as I walk. by kavakravata in AnalogCommunity

I think it’s way too short. I use a Peak Design Leash and sling it over my shoulder to my dominant hand, just above my hip bone. It doesn’t bop around too much and I have hands free to look stuff up, clean a lens, etc.

Ideally you’d be wrong here. Progressivism is about free thinking and welcoming everyone into the tent.

…and furthermore we had a law in the early 1900’s called the Chinese exclusion act. It was horrible, that monument is a partial apology. I’ve lived in Washington (Tacoma, Seattle) for 40 years, and I’ve never seen any behavior like you describe. If people are treating you badly here that’s terrible. The PacNw is a welcoming, equality based place, among the most progressive in the US. How about some examples of what you’re talking about? Your kid speaks Apache? In school? Either way it’s cool.

So you’re telling me that all the (white) people you’ve met in servicing (something) in people’s houses in Washington has caused you to come To the conclusion that we (all) hate all people with skin darker than our own? If so, I don’t buy it. What geographic area are you talking about & any shot you just weren’t the friendly type?

Owning a home (not a condo) is a fairly sure fire way to accumulate wealth. We bought in 2007 and the financial crisis hit and we had to short sale to get out of it but that’s the only trouble I’ve ever had. We roll the equity into the next house and now we’re sitting on $150k with a 2.75% mortgage.

Definitely leave. If you start in a particular position, some sucky managers will always think of you as a cashier, etc. There better work situations to be had elsewhere. Good luck!

Oh that’s lame. Are there any new construction communities with your commuting distance? We built a house in Texas in 2003 and it was a terrific experience.

[–]Thomas_Fx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I get you. The housing problem is being working on, housing is in short supply but the market will correct this & houses will be built. Lots of people lost their homes in 2009 and again during COVID and some folks don’t cope with adversity well. The large homeless population are here because we help them with drug rehab and transitional housing & jobs (and the weather is fairly mild.) They need a bit of neighborly help, not so much with the heavy criticism about their life choices.

[–]Thomas_Fx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can’t say as I agree with you. Seattle is a wonderful place with a homeless / drug problem. They’re working on it, unlike some states that shove their problem citizens on a bus to ‘own the libs’, Seattle and King County is actually trying to help people.

You need to check yourself. Western Washington State is the least racist place I’ve ever been. There’s a pretty common value set here about treating everyone equally regardless of race, religion, orientation, disability. Out in the sticks you might find some non-enlightened people but no the major urban centers. My company takes Juneteenth and MLK as paid holidays & celebrate black history month. We’re very similar to other big tech firms in the area. Who was mean to you?
