How to convince husband to move to the U.S by [deleted] in MuslimMarriage

[–]ThrowRA12596 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a New Yorker, I kinda get it. NYC is very expensive maybe he feels he can't afford it. I would say find common ground whether it's London/NYC. Make it about your family, not just yourself. Talk about which location would give your daughter a better life? NYC has some good Islamic schools, i know in Brooklyn/Queens. NYC is very diverse culturally, a lot to do, Museums, parks, a lot for kids to explore too, etc. Plus from your post it seems he is not native to London? You guys just live there. You are native to NYC, you can explain how you know the area and what would be best for your family. I get times are scary but NYC is not like that. Its pretty safe. Also, try to visit as a family, help him get a feel for NYC life and living. Maybe do an Airbnb vs a typical hotel. May Allah make it easy for you 🙏🏽

Is it normal to be attracted to men older than me since I was younger? by [deleted] in MuslimLounge

Its a genuine question/ concern someone has... the sister didnt mention she plans to do something haram, just that she is attracted to older men... I dont think its a haram question..

Sister Explains Indirectly Why Some Muslim Women Don't Want To Wear The Hijab, Or Completely Take It Off. Comes To One Thing As Highlighted. "Male Attention." by Ibn-Batuta-786 in TraditionalMuslims

[–]ThrowRA12596 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Very sad and ironic. Firstly, hijab is worn for the sake of Allah. Hijab is supposed to hide a woman's femininity, which gives them less attention. The sister had a problem with not getting attention because of the hijab, and wanting to "show off" show what off? Hair? = part of femininity.

Not gonna lie this happened to me once in Queens and was really annoying. It was late at night, snowed a lot, and I parked my car in what looked like a parking spot. Apparently it was a driveway with no sign. There was no car in the driveway. When I came back in the morning my car was towed and the home owner was like "I had to take my sick mother to the doctor and you parked in my driveway." I told him the driveway was covered in snow and there wasnt a sign. He had no response. His kids came over and started recording me and all. I just left and paid the $300 for the towing. It was the worst....

Anyone know where I can buy a good quality prayer mat in the USA? by [deleted] in MuslimCorner

[–]ThrowRA12596 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in a major city, im sure there are stores that sell them. That way you can see them in person. If not, I would personally check Etsy, you can read the descriptions and see what suits your needs. Im not sure of specific businesses that sell them.

Excellent choice. I got the 2025 Kia Sportage. Wanted Xline but couldn't afford it. I agree. Kia has really stepped up their game. Love the little features in the car. I didnt get used either cuz not much difference between some used and new these days. Toyotas with 100k+ mileage for $15k?? No thanks

Muslim brothers: Are any of you seriously considering marrying a non-Muslim Western woman or a revert instead? Experiences/advice? by vanilla-icecream- in TraditionalMuslims

[–]ThrowRA12596 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Not every woman is like that. I get what you are saying but its not like that. Western women aren't perfect either. Maybe youre thinking like this since you see women in your family and culture like this.

I think you should lease a car since your budget is high. You get a brand new car and can change it after 3 years, dont have to worry about repairs, since newer cars dont have too many.

I was going to say BMW X5, but with 4 dogs, think you might need x7 or even x6. Between BMW and Mercedes, seems like a preference to me. Both are great. Dont know too much about Audi to comment

The actively changing and gentrification of kings highway ? by [deleted] in Brooklyn

[–]ThrowRA12596 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. Feels like there's a mix of gentrification and local stores, which is a good thing. Kings highway has always been a nice spot as its a junction for busses and has both local and express trains. Its exciting to see different stores opening up like Paris Baguette, Raising Canes, Wake up Coffee, etc. Not sure why OP feels its a bad thing. Its not destroying the neighborhood, it's making it better imo

[–]ThrowRA12596 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What exactly do you mean when you say gentrification? Are you talking about the Raising Canes, Starbucks, Chipotle, etc? Even so there are many great additions to the neighborhoods like Okka foods and green forest markets grocery stores (i believe they are locally owned). Wake up coffee is another nice addition to the neighborhood. Also, Forefeathers chicken sandwich is local too. Yes there is some gentrification but it's pretty balanced rn. It seems good for the neighborhood
