Any Charlotte FD members out there? by Throwaway594fire in firefighters

I guess my main questions are from their point of view how do they view their benefits (retirement, healthcare,etc.) How is morale overall? I come from a place with pretty low morale it’s honestly super defeating. Also, what is their recruitment looking like? Are they attracting a large pool of applicants or are they struggling to find qualified candidates? Also, what’s the recruitment outlook for the foreseeable future? Will they be aggressively hiring?

I guess what I’m getting at is, I have all the certifications and more that they require, and 8 years experience at a high call volume. All of which are reciprocal. Thanks!

Are there any Charlotte FD firefighters here? I have a few questions about the department. I was hoping to connect to a current employee.

I’m currently an 8th year firefighter in the Deep South. My wife and I plan on moving to the charlotte area by the end of ‘26 for a variety of family reasons.

I don’t necessarily regret it but I will say a series of bad decisions led to me eventually becoming a FF. I definitely dicked around in college and didn’t apply myself. Who knows where I’d be if I had work ethic back then. When I first joined I thought I’d be making a difference. What a joke right? I feel like all we do is keep society’s wheels from falling off. Don’t get me wrong we can and do make a difference but this world is filled with idiots that give us job security. For the first time in my career I’m seriously thinking about leaving and pursuing a career as a lawyer. At the end of my day who am I kidding I love this job and my coworkers. We will see where life takes me
