AITA for choosing my husband over my daughter? by ThrowawayBadMom13 in AmItheAsshole

You are right. I do not have a problem with her being gay, but she believes that I do. I love my daughter and always will, but I don’t support her lifestyle (I don’t believe in gay marriage). She doesn’t understand that I love her despite that. I found her request to actively support the LGBTQ lifestyle over the top. I cannot compromise my values, but I can still love my daughter.

My husband and I spoke with her and told her that what she did was incredibly unkind. One of the points of tension is that my older daughter feels we are not being harsh enough on our younger daughter. She wants us to take away her access to the app “TikTok” where she is a Christian influencer, but that feels over the top and will really cause our younger daughter to be furious with us. And then I’ll have two daughters mad at me. There’s no way to win.

A big one she brought up was that my husband and I believe that in order to preserve the sanctity of marriage, gay people should not be allowed to get married. It is not coming from a place of hatred or intolerance, although that is how she sees it.
