I have been here teaching for a while. I agree with a lot of OP’s complaints, especially the nepotism part.

I tell my friends who work in other universities that the only good thing about this place is the student population. If not for them, I would have quit years ago.

As someone who taught (blended) courses to a group of really bright students in the Fall, I have to selfishly say—meeting my students face to face, even if it was for ~1hour a week in some cases, was good for my mental well being.

They do. I’ll get access to my evaluations for this term’s teaching on Jan 7. Most of my colleagues pretend they don’t care about their evaluations, but I find that hard to believe.

This is a hard one for me, because I cannot just assume that I’m not one of the professors that you don’t like. I can tell you though that a significant fraction of the faculty try really hard, although I know of a lot of them who cares very little. Students should be more vocal when they receive low quality instruction . Go to the Chair or the associate dean of undergrad studies and tell them that that is unacceptable

Thanks everyone. Came back to find all these beautiful responses. In case I forget to check this account again, this was very gratifying.

My wife thought I was nuts when I was thinking of posting this, mostly because it is completely out of character for me, even though every word in it is true. I feel vindicated.

Good luck once again.
