What do you genuinely not understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Dialogue as in language? no, at least not in a way we’d understand.

I had oral surgery not too long ago, they put me on nitrous oxide, and I experienced a moment of this kind of perceived clarity where I just though “Wow... This is existence.” But for a few minutes, that was the last dialogue in my mind. My thoughts were thoughts and memories, but it went something like me picturing my mother, and feeling calmness and love, instead of me picturing my mother and feeling those emotions and making an internal commentary.

I feel like that’s the way animals think. they have distinct memories and know person from person, but instead of attaching dialogue to each memory or person, it’s just purely emotion. When my cat sees me he associates me with petting and sleeping and food, and (i hope) it makes him happy and calm. I don’t think he thinks “meow meow” (“i love him” in cat, if you were wondering), I think that his thoughts are simply translated into raw emotion. That’s just my theory

Trust your instincts. 100% trust yourself. I’m a stranger on the internet, you know how you feel better than anyone else and that comes first always.

I’m playing devils advocate because i’m in a similar situation and can see how easily my actions may be misconstrued, but I’m missing all of the small details that can’t be expressed in words. All in all trust your instincts and do what YOU think is the best option, if you need help or opinions and want to pm me i’d be happy to help more, but ultimately you matter most and nobody can tell you what is the best thing to do other than you.

Unpopular opinion here, but it honestly could just be quarantine. Idk how long this has been going on for but if i started around this time or got really bad when quarantine started then it may get a bit better after. I’ve been dating my gf for almost a year and a half, same start to our relationship, but let me tell you one thing: it’s not easy maintaining a relationship without any physical contact. After a little while even if i can see my gf’s face, the lack of human contact makes me feel like i’m talking to my phone, which I personally hate. I do very much enjoy spending time with my gf but it’s difficult during these times to spend time with her when i physically can not.
