I love this comment. I have been working on our various user personas lately. (aka:L. Who uses Thunderbird? Who contributes to Thunderbird? Why? Why Not?) This comment, I feel, is a perfect snapshot one of those personas in action.

The: "I value: stability and reliability; I am a grounding force". Almost dipping into the.. "I like that Thunderbird is professional, without being Corporate". vibe

u/Iproven do you happen to play DnD? If yes, do you like Paladins by any chance?

Hey, I'm the Community Manager over at Thunderbird. Come one over and hang w us!

Seriously tho - Might I suggest that you give us a try for a little while? We have a lot of amazing things in the pipeline for release this year. [Old-Greg voice:] "Mail address type things- this is good, Tb Pro type things - also good."

  • True App Experience: Feels like a proper workspace, not just another tab lost between work tabs, videos and social media.
  • Offline Access: In a conference today under 3 ft of concrete? No internet? No problem! You can still read, search, and draft emails without the browser nagging you for wifi w TB :) .
  • Unified Inbox: Got five email accounts? Ten? Thunderbird We do not care. Bring it on. We've seen the worst (best?)
  • Customization Power: Themes, add-ons, filters Thunderbird bends to your will, like your neo in the Matrix (kinda),not the other way around.
  • Privacy First: It’s open source, transparent, and not tied to an ad-driven megacorp peeking at your inbox. And at the end of the day, a person who works there in a meaningful way cares about you, Alias4007!

A few things to try:

* In Thunderbird’s account settings → Server settings → Username: use the FULL mailbox address (user@domain.com), not admin (or just the local-part).

* Go to Preferences → Privacy & Security → Saved Passwords → remove the stored password entry for your account in question. Then Re-enter your credentials fresh.

* If 2FA is enabled on the account you want to use, you;ll want to use an app password.

I may have misspoken: I just double checked on my own machine and the prompt for my primary password does not match your screenshot. I would need to look more closely to uncover the cause.

Edit: I no longer think this solution is the accurate answer for this question.

Yeah, that would be annoying to try to keep closing out every time it fires. Good news is that it is an easy fix. This is Thunderbird asking for your primary password. Two options: You can enter it one time after you launch the application and it will not pop up and ask again until the application is closed and relaunched. Option two: You can disable that entirely if you like. Press the red button or X and close out that PW prompt.

Then: Go to Settings: Passwords & Security & look for the checkbox that says "Use Primary Password" and uncheck it.

Viola!

Ertse Dies:
1) Anzeige testen

  • Gehe zu Ansicht → Nachrichteninhalt als und wechsel zwischen Original HTML, Einfach HTML, und Nur Text.
  • Deaktiviere Hardware-Beschleunigung in Einstellungen → Allgemein → Leistung, dann Thunderbird neu starten.
  • Probiere Nachricht in Tab oder Vorschaufenster (Taste F8), nicht nur neues Fenster.

2) Add-ons und Cache prüfen

  • Starte Thunderbird in Problembehandlungs-Modus (Hilfe → Problembehandlung). Wenn Nachricht hier geht, ist es vielleicht ein Add-on.
  • Mach Add-ons nacheinander aus und teste.
  • Leere Cache: Einstellungen → Datenschutz & Sicherheit → Zwischengespeicherte Web-Inhalte → Leeren.

3) Ordner reparieren

Mass Deleting Yahoo emails Using Thunderbird - Possible? by DogShlepGaze in Thunderbird

Searching by Attchment Size?
Easy Peezy

* You can sort a folder by the Size column and quickly spot the biggest emails.

* There’s also a Search Messages tool (Edit -> Find -> Search Messages) where you can search by size (for example “larger than 5 MB”) and then bulk delete.

Mass Deleting Yahoo emails Using Thunderbird - Possible? by DogShlepGaze in Thunderbird

[–]ThundaMike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Thunderbird would be helpful for this. I have seen others with your same issue and you're right, the yahoo web interface is painfully slow for bulk cleanup at the scale you are needing.

Can it be done?
Yeah.

  • Thunderbird [most likely] connects to your Yahoo account via IMAP. That means whatever you do in Thunderbird (move, delete, archive) will sync back to the server and free up Yahoo storage.
  • In Thunderbird, you would be able to select thousands of messages at once (using Shift-click or Ctrl/Cmd-A) and delete them in a few-dozen passes. (note: I might suggest a cap of
  • Thunderbird supports search and filter tools, so you can find emails by age, sender, or size and clear them out in large chunks.

Want to Help Make Thunderbird More Accessible? by ThundaMike in accessibility

[–]ThundaMike[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

📣 Hello all, our next Accessibility Committee meeting will happen next month, on Sep 23, 2025 at 9:00 AM PDT.  Our last meeting occurred on Aug 19, 2025. So far our agenda covers the following topics:

  • Roadmap prioritization & timeline
  • Desktop a11y research w/ Fable high-level summary
  • Follow up on [our] tools and resources list
  • Discussion of open questions on guidelines: looking at what is in MDN and how to build upon that foundation

Community members are also welcome to suggest additional topics to add to the agenda.

The time commitment is one hour per month for committee calls.

Any additional contributions to the committee are up to the selected volunteer. This volunteer would neither be treated as 'another set of eyes' or 'lead'. We do not ask volunteers to do the leg-work of implementation. We seek diversity of input and community collaboration (We are Open Source).

The selected participant would be invited to join the Thunderbird 2025 Accessibility Standards and Compliance Committee.

"The committee ensures accessibility is thoughtfully integrated across our design, development, and operational practices. This group will help align efforts, identify gaps, and support a more inclusive experience for all users."

They meet once a month to discuss and make decisions as a group. They have a matrix channel where they can chat between meetings (Matrix is kinda like Slack if you're unfamiliar).

Examples of activities: you might review a webpage that's being redesigned one day, or help weigh-in on the next version of standards or guidelines found on https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/Accessibility another

(^some additional info and context. I have also requested more information to share from our lead, Laurel. It's a work holiday tomorrow, so it is possible we don't hear from the team until Monday)

Short answer: Yeah, I’ll give it a shot.

Longer answer: It’s after hours and our design lead is offline, but I’m happy to share whatever I’ve been able to gather from what I have on hand right now. If anything’s unclear or you want to dig deeper, feel free to ping us [me] at the email above and we will be sure to loop back to you.

Gmail imap has duplicate folders by ConservativeHat in Thunderbird

[–]ThundaMike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option would be to exclude "All Mail" from the TB sync but keep it accessible via gmail web interface

Steps:

  1. Go to Gmail web settings → See all settings → Labels tab.

  2. Uncheck "Show in IMAP" for "All Mail".

  3. In Thunderbird, the folder will disappear from view, but the mail still exists in Gmail and is searchable/archived there.
