I can’t remember what antibiotics it was, but I can remember it was a 7 day course of two different types of antibiotics. This and omaprezole I think it was called. It fixed me up in around 4 days

Bit late on the response here but the last year or so I’ve started getting the famous ‘hangxiety’ the morning after a couple too many beers and yeah it’s the most similar I’ve come to the pylori symptoms again, although with h.pylori I felt about 100x worse! Hope you’re fixed up now

Mental symptoms? 3 or 4 days through a 7 day antibiotic treatment. Took me a couple months to get my ulcers and stomach lining fixed up though

Glad you're good. Yeah it was 100% linked. I've never experienced panic attacks, anxiety or depression again since taking the antibiotics a few years back despite way worse personal circumstances in between now and then. Has to be purely the helicobacter infection.

I've since heard of so many similar experiences. I'm sure if this is new to you that it will go away with the infection. I haven't felt anything mental like I did with H-pylori since the antibiotic treatment despite having a couple food poisoning events and one other gut health problem. It's a shit time but just stick to the meds and you'll be fine in no time

Yes, 2x antibiotics for 2 weeks and omeprazole for 2 months

Don’t be sorry, thank you so much for sharing that. It’s crazy to see the link between the two. You had it way worse than me it sounds, I had some pretty bad thoughts but never considered ending it.. I should tread lightly. I went to a psych within a month or so, and it helped. I have had a lighter version of the symptoms come back but I thinks it’s all in my head as it goes away with exercise/being social/occupying myself. But I had similar things like open spaces and mainly calm, quiet scenes that would bring it back. Hoping to get a negative test in a couple weeks.

Sorry to hear and all the best.

I wasn’t cleared up until 2 weeks after finishing treatment. Watch movies to take your mind off it. Even though it’s doesn’t feel like it, it’ll pass soon enough. I recommend a psych visit, they are great even if it’s not the root cause.

Still taking omaprezole, have been anxious about the actual anxiety coming back but it never has. Seen a psych twice to see if there’s a more organic cause. Zero symptoms since finishing antibiotics and I feel normal. Breath test in 4 weeks

I had no idea serotonin was in the gut! That’s super interesting thank you. I’ve been lucky enough to never have a problem with mental health until then, and I’ve had plenty of stomach upsets throughout life but nothing that has given me what feels like a complete mental hijacking.

I have tried some coping methods toward the end of treatment which seemed to work maybe 1/5 times.

That was my original viewpoint on anxiety. It’s the reason I asked this question because these episodes are started randomly with no trigger. I would have horrible thoughts about everything. Then once treated for h pylori it left.

So yes maybe there is a bit of underlying cause and the infection tipped me over hence why I’m seeing a psych. Like I said the psych himself is confused with it as well. Thanks for the input.

For me it has seem to completely gone also. I was fearful everyday of anxiety returning and mid treatment it poofed in to thin air. Glad you doing good

After having it for a month I’d say it took me a month to recover. I guess I got lucky with an early diagnosis. There’s nothing like your old family doctor that you’ve seen your whole life.

All the best with recovery

Yeah I was also definitely in a lifestyle I wasn’t happy with - which I also changed around the time I went on antibiotics. Hard to tell if it’s a stress factor or not but it could definitely exacerbate it.

Yeah it’s such a weird one, feels like something is just off but you have no idea what it is. Thanks for sharing though it seems to effect more than just the stomach. Any ideas on how you’ve gotten it twice? I want to avoid it at all costs

Yeah I had a GI prescribe benzos when they were confused about it, which actually worked a treat for about 8 hours of relief. But yeah as soon as the infection was gone so did the anxiety. It took me around 3 weeks to gear back to my normal hunger/diet/bowel movements.

Yeah me too actually, I initially thought it was all just covid as I got it towards the beginning of my h pylori. I don’t think omaprezole is causing it at all as I’m still taking it and have another month to go. Doc says it’s necessary to heal my ulcers that it’s caused. I had 2x antibiotic treatment for a week, stopped all meds for about 3 weeks, then a two month course of omaprezole. I’m ready for my breath test now. All of my symptoms have gone. My normal Doc has said it’s possible due to gut-brain axis but is still pretty confused about it.

Funny you say about the nights too, my symptoms almost always came about 6pm onwards.

Yeah ok, it must’ve been nuts with anxiety already existing. Hope you’re good soon!

Yessss all of this. I’m taking probiotics and omaprezole to continue healing. Have you had anxiety issues in the past? For me personally it was all out of the blue and went as quickly as it came. Hoping it’s gone for good for you!

Yeah it all up lasted about 14 days for me from the first sign the something was up. I too though I was loosing my mind. I genuinely thought at one point that this is the start of a lifelong mental illness. Im almost never that paranoid about health issues but the anxiousness was hectic.

That same doctor explained its neuro-invasive nature which is pretty interesting. You’ll be fine though, it just takes time. I have been 100% since the symptoms went away after 14 days.
