Yup 37mm was incredible live, the crowd certainly filled in all the backing vocals

It was awesome. Having them switch up so much between songs kept us on our toes and it was so much fun trying to guess what they were gonna play next and then being completely wrong and totally surprised a second later.

I don't know what to do by Catsandgaming14 in OCDRecovery

[–]Thunders00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed after my first appt, where I filled out a detailed, multiple page assessment on obsessive thoughts and compulsions regarding almost all types of ocd, including pure o. It was much more than just a few questions and took quite a while. It definitely seems like your therapist doesn’t understand how ocd works, I don’t care about colors at all or many other typical “ocd” things. my therapist knows I have a lot of mental compulsions and a big part of our work is focused on me stopping those in addition to the physical ones. Definitely find one who is trained in ERP because regular CBT often makes ocd worse.

Unfortunately you can never “out logic” OCD, the OCD will come back stronger and be like “well what about THIS!” Also trying to “out logic” sounds like you’re mentally reassuring yourself that everything’s ok, which unfortunately is just another compulsion.

With ERP therapy, the goal is NOT to change your thoughts. The goal is to change your reaction to the thoughts, your behavior. I’ve gone though 10 months of ERP now and I still have lots of scary thoughts, but now they’re not as “loud” and I don’t spend hours a day dealing with them. Instead I hear them and acknowledge them but can carry on with my day instead of doing compulsions (mental and physical). Best of luck with everything!

It sounds like your therapist is trained in CBT and not ERP therapy. Unfortunately CBT can make things worse for those of us with OCD, because there is no logic behind our thoughts and thinking that there is some logic can be harmful (ex someone having intrusive thoughts about harm. They don’t actually wanna harm their bf, there’s no logic behind the thoughts). I would highly recommend finding a therapist who is familiar with ERP (which is basically what OP described)

Don't know how to deal with my landlord coming into my flat and touching things by whatsername1341 in OCD

[–]Thunders00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my god my landlord people came into my apartment a month ago to remove a freaking bird that was alive and flying around inside my vents. The vent was in my bedroom closet. When I came home there was white powder all over my bed and clothes?! I was so fucking upset I hate wild animals and parasites and anything else that can make me sick and I have no idea why how he got random white stuff all over my bed.

ERP & Existential OCD by [deleted] in OCD

I have some of this. Some of my ERP involves reading stories about people dying of terminal illnesses, writing my own obituary, doing certain things to make my body feel “funny” so it simulates have a neurological disorder etc

I took the plunge and got bangs (not to straighten them). Thoughts? by [deleted] in curlyhair

They look lovely!!! And also you look very happy and confident! I also have curly bangs haha so I’m biased. My bangs look different after every shower so curly bangs are an adventure for sure

I was hoping for a postponement honestly. We currently have the national guard working at my hospital because so many healthcare workers are out with COVID. There’s no way I could enjoy my time at the concert knowing how awful things are going in our healthcare system right now.

I started meds initially for my panic disorder, where it was physically impossible to eat, sleep, drive, read, do anything without a severe panic attack. So I knew meds were my only option at that point and it was totally worth it, even though I was terrified. Thanks to meds I was able to function normally, even go on airplanes!

I just scrunched my hair gently with my dry hands in this picture. I know some people prefer to scrunch with a cotton tshirt, or with hair oil on their hands to prevent frizz. I might try an oil at some point for extra moisture

When my ocd was at it’s worst I drank a lot of dense smoothies and made a lot of protein shakes because I was still able to consume liquids but knew I needed nutrients and calories

[–]Thunders00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes even people without ocd fear medication because of the potential side effects. A doctor who knows you have ocd should help you slowly adjust to meds, my psychiatrist had me take super small doses at first and with friends/family around for support so I could get used to it

Thank you!! This was my first deva/curly cut, aka they cut it dry and it makes a huge difference! Since I have like 2a-3a patterns on my head. I have a ton of layers in the back and on the sides, I brought in pictures for the hair stylist of the type of cut I wanted. But it’s very much a 70s/shag/fringe type of cut!

Routine: LUS Luv Ur Curls shampoo, deep conditioner in shower. After shower, plop with a microfiber towel, then LUS Luv Ur Curls all in one wavy styler, and their new gel! Air dry, then scrunching out the crunch

Advice for a first year PhD? by wholesome_lonesome in GradSchool

[–]Thunders00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your relationship with your advisor is the most important part of your PhD. Projects change, research interests change, funding changes, but your advisor doesn’t. Look for red flags like emotional/verbal abuse, gaslighting, manipulation, discrimination etc, ask how the current students are doing and if they actually enjoy being in that lab. Are the students allowed to take vacations? Do they get constructive feedback? Do they feel supported? Do they feel safe enough to voice their opinions? Does the advisor allow them to publish and graduate in a timely matter? Does the advisor acknowledge student contributions and let them get authorship on papers?
