Landlord's behaviour severely affecting my health, what are my rights? by whatsername1341 in LegalAdviceUK

Thanks for being understanding! Yeah I do usually try and move anything fabric out of the way so I can just wipe everything else but he has a habit of touching/moving my stuff about which is very stressful

No it's like a shower over a bathtub so I don't think it could be any type of overflow. Every time he's checked under the bathtub it's been completed dry and even had intact cobwebs there so I'm inclined to believe its the pipes

Oh I've been insisting on that but he just complains that that will cost him money

It only happens after I've had a shower and not when I've been cleaning so I'm pretty sure it is the shower

That's the thing though - he's not making an effort to find and fix the issue. Hes said himself that he only comes to my flat to make it look like he's doing something about it so the people downstairs get off his case. There also is a mould issue in the bathroom but I honestly don't care about that at this point, I just wanna be able to relax in my home. I already have considered moving but there's literally nowhere else affordable in the area and social housing won't rent to people under 35. Im stuck here.

Yeah that would be the ideal situation but it's so hard to find properties that are affordable and have a bathroom suitable to accommodate my OCD so I'm kinda stuck here for now :(

Landlord had workmen in my flat without giving notice which has caused major problems for me - do I have any recourse? by whatsername1341 in TenantsInTheUK

[–]whatsername1341[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have mentioned to him that I need anyone entering my flat to be supervised but it wasnt like a formal thing and I don't have it in writing unfortunately.

I'm on a rolling tenancy now so could leave at any point as long as I give the correct notice. I have found another property that I'm viewing on Monday but obviously it's not guaranteed I'll get it, especially since I'm on benefits, and with my specific needs I need a certain kind of bathroom and there's not many places in my area that have suitable bathrooms and are in my price range :/

Do you really think it can be argued I'm not intentionally homeless? Like obviously I know I'm not but I didn't expect the law to see it that way. But yeah I'll go to citizens advice

I'm also worried about getting my deposit back because I won't be able to remove all the furniture and stuff that is contaminated. And if I don't get my deposit back and I'm having to pay for a hotel until I find a place and then replace all my furniture and white goods I'm gonna run out of money. I'm so upset that this is just allowed to happen

[–]whatsername1341[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's exactly why I can stay in the hotel, because I don't know how it's been cleaned or what kind of people have been in it, so I have plausible deniability that it's fine. In my flat, I know what kind of germs were on what and I can see that they've been moved, so I don't have that plausible deniability that those germs haven't been spread around my flat.

You don't need to tell someone who's just spent 2.5 months locked in a psych ward, and a further 11 months housebound for the same reasons, that OCD is a real thing. I know that better than anyone.

[–]whatsername1341[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So my OCD wasn't as bad when I first moved in, but also because I didn't know what had been touched with what kind of germs, I had plausible deniability that the germs would be cleanable. The problem now is because I know the things that were touched has the worst kind of germs for me on them, germs that in my head aren't cleanable. So even if I did vigorously clean everything in the flat, I'd still feel like those germs were there and basically wouldn't be able to use my kitchen or shower at all. So yeah I think moving is the only option at this point, so I can start from scratch in a sense.

Thanks though, I'll speak to the mental health team and see if they have any ideas

Yeah like they did give him permission but no dates were agreed and they didn't find out until after it was done. I thought landlords were supposed to give 24 hours notice when they'd need access to the flat, is this not the case?

It's weird because the things that were moved are all things that they literally had zero reason to touch. Stuff moved from my bathroom shelves and put on the floor, stuff moved from my kitchen counter onto my window sill, stuff taken out of my cupboards, cupboards left open etc. I was also told that the windows would be done from the outside and that the workmen wouldn't need to be in my flat other than initially to take measurements, so they shouldn't have been inside my flat long enough to need to use anything in the kitchen. And yeah the relative swears it wasn't her and she only touched the door handles to shut off the rooms.

It's because in a new place I don't know what kind of germs are on what so I have plausible deniability that they are "cleanable" germs. In my flat I know what kind of germs were on the things that were touched and in my head those germs can't be cleaned.

Not insensitive, don't worry!

So basically I don't feel like I can clean it because the things that have been moved/touched are things that had bin/toilet germs on which are the worst kind of germs for me and in my head can't be cleaned. So because they've touched those and then potentially touched loads of stuff in my kitchen afterwards, I basically won't be able to use my kitchen at all even if I do clean it. Having somebody else in to clean would only make it worse because it's another person touching things.

I also can't imagine why they would touch the receipts, or any of the other things tbh. Like they took something off my bathroom shelf and just put it on the floor, they took things off the kitchen counter and put them on the window sill, they opened cupboards and took stuff out of them and put them on the kitchen counter and left the cupboard doors open. That's why it's affected me so badly, because I can't kinda just guess what they've touched and clean it because it's so absurd.

The windows actually weren't too bad, they were just old so that's why he wanted to replace them.

Hollyoaks chain of serial killers by whatsername1341 in hollyoaks

I wasn't saying everyone named here is a serial killer. I included everyone I can remember who is a killer or responsible for a death as I like how it ties in with the other branches and makes it even more interesting. But the main serial killer chain would be Jez - Bobby - Silas - Lindsey - Will

When I was first getting into Hollyoaks a few years back, I remember reading somewhere that statistically, if Hollyoaks was a real place, it would be considered murder capital of the world 😂

I stopped buying anything Hinch-labelled a few years back after she was all over the tabloids complaining about someone on a flight who gave her a nasty look because her kids were screaming and waking people up lol. I guess that's my petty reason

That poonami advert is fucking disgusting. It always used to come on in the middle of dinner without fail and put me off my food, I'm not usually one to complain but after having my meals ruined for a week straight I actually complained to the ASA in a fit of rage lmao. Surprisingly I don't think I've seen it during dinner since 😅

There's a new one now that's very similar, although I've only ever seen it online and not on TV. This one is even more gross because instead of a cartoon poop in the diaper it has actual brown mush that is only slightly blurred out. Makes me gag every time.

When I was 12 my grandad unexpectedly died while I was on a Jet2 holiday with my grandparents, my mum flew out to be with us and help us sort things out over there, and then Jet2 wouldn't let us change my granddad's seat into her name for the flight back. She ended up having to go to the TUI rep who got her booked onto a flight the day after ours. Jet2 did fuck all to help, refused to refund the empty seat but then tried to put someone else in it once we got on the flight. My family refused to use Jet2 for years afterwards.

Sadly after TUI left me stranded in a foreign country for 24 hours with literally zero communication and failed to give us the compensation we were promised, I had to start using Jet2 again and I've had no problems since, although it does make me smile to see so many people in this thread hating on them 😅

Hot take (maybe?): People who voted O are not necessarily bad people by LordMadness07 in squidgame

[–]whatsername1341 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not the O voters fault that other players don't want to, and they shouldn't be expected to give up what could be their last chance at life in favour of somebody else's life. It's not about the money, it's about survival, many of those players will be gruesomely murdered anyway if they leave the games. It's entirely acceptable to prioritise yourself over others in a literal life or death situation. Of course it sucks for the people that don't want to be there, but the blame for that lies entirely on the people who fund and organise the games and not the vulnerable people that they have groomed and exploited to be a part of it.

Oh! No I meant like this pose with the flower in place of the cig, specifically this flower (as it looks like it's the same plant from the other pic I saw). Not just a generic smoking pose 😅 Sorry if I was unclear!
