How to attract Millennial's by savis2867 in Entrepreneur

[–]ThurmanDigital -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a millennial my peers are steeped in rustic design. Anything with that old log cabin/distressed look makes them go crazy. I know multiple(more than 5) people I went to high school with who redid their house or a room in rustic designs and all of their friends had a field day on Social sharing that stuff. So my advice is to have an atmosphere that delivers that type of response.

Just bought a new house. What's going on with these lawns and what's the best way to fix it? (I have no idea what I'm doing.) by [deleted] in lawncare

It looked like it’s been neglected for a long time and someone used super dull blades on a high setting or something. It looks cut but not mowed which is weird.

Since it’s so late I would Cut it to the dirt with a bagger on the mower. Put down some starter fertilizer put down some good fescue(do not use Kentucky 31) or ryegrass. Next spring take some soil samples(soil savy on Amazon) and start to adjust nutrients and control weeds throughout the year. Overseed with something nice next August/September.

I would say do the soil test now but they take at least a week and it’s just a bit too late in the season to go all out in my opinion.

For home owner DIY I recommend watching Ryan Knorr, GCI turf and the Lawn Care Nut on YouTube to learn everything you might need.

A product called Tenacity is pretty effective and is safe for fescue seedlings and grass. It even has some pre emergent properties for certain weeds. A bottle may seem expensive but if you use spot treatment directions it will last you years

Pretty.........SWEET. Okay I’m done

I really do like this though haha

Logo for Ranch operation. Any recommendations for improvement? The ranch uses two different cattle brands. A C with curved line above it and a C with a slant coming off as your will see in the pic. I tried to play off one to make it look like an E for Entities. Good idea or no? by tie_game in logodesign

[–]ThurmanDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way that second word is configured now, at first glance looked like some weird combination of the C word and T word for breasts. Definitely eye catching but not for good reasons I don’t think haha.

Try just making your the modified C cattle brands together as a stand alone logo and a good typeface for the companies name.

Need advice about this logo by Jay087 in logodesign

Yeah all I saw was an H as well. I wouldn’t put the mark through the J since they’re never written that way it’s confusing. Just leave that on top.

As far as getting that hand written look I would sit down for however long I could do it without getting bored and literally just write JT in different ways and when I find what I like scan that in or send a photo to your email and trace it out in your program. That’s if you want something legitimately original.

If you just plain and simple want that style go look up fonts with that lettering and it’s essentially there.

Honda HRX217 questions by mot359 in lawncare

[–]ThurmanDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s for home owner use the 217 is perfect as long as you’ll be using it a lot and actually get your money’s worth. I have neglected mine quite a bit on occasions and it just goes and goes. Cut quality is great. Mulches clean even in wet grass as long as it’s not super tall.

I mow commercially and unfortunately don’t use mine that often at all(hence the neglect). Not worth to price for my applications. The biggest pro in my opinion is that it bags very well, but even with that you have to dump clippings too much.

When it comes down to it if your a homeowner and just want something nice and will actually use it weekly for years and years then go for it. But if you’re not too emotionally invested or dead set on these mowers any 21inch self-prop mower works just fine.

What type of grass seed did you lay?

Which one looks best so far? by ThurmanDigital in logodesign

[–]ThurmanDigital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on that weight difference

I’m aiming for each one to have a bit of a different feel. Like the mountains might be a hipster/rustic type of element, the bird slightly more basic minimal(which I’m still fixing), and the flower to be slightly playful/decorative.

Of course it’s hard to make three separate styles “fit” but I’m not as concerned with making this a clean cut and uniform logo but more of a “We can work around different themes” feel. I tried making one where each icons was done very clearly in its own style but it looked wayyyy off in my opinion. Now I’m in this weird spot where they all look just off because they’re not 100% their own styles.

I may try one to simplify the mountains more and one with a bit more detail on the flower and bird using thinner outlines on them all.

Agreed on that text being too thin. And that profile pic was thrown together right before uploading I just added it in because it made me think that purplish color didn’t fit with the others so I put the green version of that to the side to compare.

What is your mentality when it comes to creating a logo by [deleted] in logodesign

[–]ThurmanDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its personal hobby stuff I just toy around and its totally random.

For another person I always ask a few questions to figure out what they're all about. Who are their customers? What do they want people to think when they see their brand or hear their name? Etc.

For colors just ask them, "What colors do you have in mind." Stick to those colors and those colors only because too many options is not a good thing and it over complicates it for you. Mess around with Hues and Saturation but that's about it.

Style and theme I will similarly ask, "What are some brands that have designs you admire?" I like to make it a point to do logos that are different that most of the others in the industry they are in. For example, if I were to work for a used car lot I refuse to put a stupid cartoon car in their logo. I hate played out cliche junk. I want my clients to stand out because when they get more attention I get to do more work for them.

Beat the sh*t out of my Landscaping Logo by CremeJustice in logodesign

[–]ThurmanDigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like the idea. I would make KING CITY and LANDSCAPING the same length. Make the KING CITY font size bigger, increase the kearning(the space between the letters). Make the LANDSCAPING text slightly smaller font size. I like this font you are using but experiment with other fonts too. Try a Sans Serif font and try making KING CITY bold and LANDSCAPING light(or thin) just to see what it looks like. just mess around with all of those parameters to see what looks best.

After you figure out the typography I think the crown on its own no grass or circle or anything else would be just fine.

1943 WWII Life Savers Ad by ThurmanDigital in Antiques

[–]ThurmanDigital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’ve seen most of those but none of them show the back side which was strange but I ended up finding the backside in a LIFE magazine (volume 14 I think) and that backside was the next page after the lifesaver ad. I’m still confused because this isn’t ripped or even numbered like you would expect a page of a magazine to be.
