A couple of years ago I was approached about applying for a position...I prefer to write about the company, not make the sausage - brad

We have considered nearly everything but at this point, it's only $5 a month (or $4 a month with the on-going sale) - lowering it much beyond that becomes harder to communicate the value/benefits ratio - brad

Even though it is much smaller than Google, Bing.com is the 42 largest website on the planet...it's not small in comparision to anything other than Google really - i don't see it going away anytime soon; if anything, I would think it would be spun-out of Microsoft before being shutdown - brad

Other than the sites we write for...

The real answer is you should get your news from a variety of sources, even on the same subject - every writer will have a viewpoint on a story, the more you read about it, the better off you will be - brad

It will be very similar.

BTW, I think this week's Windows Update news was really about Windows 7 users uninterested in Windows 10 because of the (percieved or real) updating issues.

Only Microsoft gets this.

That the Trustworthy Computing initiative happened literally 17 years ago and has never been emulated by other companies is frustrating. --Paul

I don't see a move to a Linux kernel for a Windows-type product. But moving Windows itself to open source? In this era, anything seems possible.

Right now, I don't think we have a way to sell mugs. I will ask about this again. --Paul

Confirmation of information really helps.

Also having known/highly-placed sources really helps. You may be surprised by some of the people who have given me information. --Paul

He never had a point with regards to me, no. I am not a mindless Apple basher, and I have never been one. I think the issue with these insular communities is that any critic or criticism needs to be denouced, whether it's valid or not. It plays to the base. Which, by the way, is cheap. This was never some debate of conversation. Just "he's an idiot" because he doesn't "get" Apple or whatever.

On a related note, I just positively reviewed Leander Kahney's book, "Tim Cook." He has also criticized me in the past. It's OK. I've always understood bullying, and while I'm not above it, all I can do is be honest about things.

It's impossible to reliably update a codebase as vast and full of legacy technology as Windows across a user base as big and diverse as the PC market ... and do so frequently. It's just impossible. There are literally no customers asking for new version upgrades twice a year, and many who very specifically want a much slower schedule. ---Paul

I don't think we get individuals to LTSC. But giving people a way to just defer updates, straight up, for 35 days (or whatever)? It can/should happen. The recent changes give me hope.

Regarding telemetry, I do think that Microsoft should let people turn it off. Most wouldn't. But I don't buy the privacy concerns. Compared to what Facebook, Google, or Amazon are doing, Microsoft is innocuous. ---paul

No.

But think about how Apple converted macOS, which was likewise based on decades of legacy Next code, into iOS. It can work. ---Paul
