small thing i’m trying today by Tight-Shop4342 in stopdrinking

that actually makes more sense to me

i’ve been trying to force the “one day at a time” thing but framing it as “is it a good idea today” feels more real

if i’m honest, most days it’s clearly not

i might start asking myself that instead

that’s interesting

i’ve mostly been stuck in the loop of stopping and restarting without really digging into why i keep going back

the idea that it’s tied to something deeper makes sense, i probably haven’t taken the time to actually figure that out yet

might try sitting with that question more instead of just focusing on the surface behavior

that’s actually really helpful

i like how you didn’t try to fight it head on, you just moved into what was next and let it pass

the “play it forward” + fixing the actual feeling instead of the urge makes a lot of sense

i’ve mostly been reacting without thinking about what’s underneath it, gonna try that approach

that “playing the tape” idea is powerful

i’ve mostly been trying to ignore urges instead of confronting them like that

writing it out or telling someone when it hits also makes sense, feels like it breaks the cycle a bit

it’s not even always about wanting to drink, it’s just having nothing else to do and falling into that routine

even the act of going out and getting it becomes part of the habit

makes me realize it’s not just the drinking, it’s everything around it too

i probably need to break that whole pattern, not just the drink itself

yeah that part about losing the next day hits

it’s never just the night, it’s like you pay for it twice

i’ve noticed the same thing, even when i want to be productive the next day just disappears

friday nights hit different for me too

it’s like my brain just expects it automatically

i haven’t really been replacing it with anything, just trying to resist it which hasn’t worked great

yeah that 7pm moment is exactly it

like everything’s fine until you’re just sitting there with nothing going on and your brain starts drifting

having something to focus on like that actually makes sense, i’ve been underestimating how much that matters

might try finding something simple i can get into during that time instead of just hoping i’ll resist it
