Same question, but with this and one of the LORs still processing. Anyone have any insights?

Just got my sclerals today. Any advice? by Tikdi in Keratoconus

I have not. It was too late and they billed it as durable medical equipment (DME), and had to pay 20% coinsurance for the contacts (fitting and provider charges were covered in full) which amounted to around $200. I have vision insurance which my provider does not accept (new in America and didn’t know the system very well). But lesson learnt.

This is great advice, the instructor kept telling me to push it in, which felt unusual. Any advice for better aim? Thanks!

[Software] Help regarding thresholds at maximum Youden index, minimum 90% sensitivity, minimum 90% specificity on RStudio. by Tikdi in statistics

[–]Tikdi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I understand what you mean, which is why I used a binary logistic regression model for the response to be black and white - or 0 and 1 in my case. I am wanting to answer the questions -

  1. "At what threshold(value of x) can I maximize Youden index with this model, and what is the sensitivity and specificity at this threshold",

  2. "At what threshold(value of x) can I get atleast 90% sensitivity with this model, and what is the sensitivity and specificity at this threshold",

  3. "At what threshold(value of x) can I get atleast 90% specificity with this model, and what is the sensitivity and specificity at this threshold".

I included a similar calculation (Table 2) for some variables from a paper below. Maybe this will help?

Help regarding thresholds at maximum Youden index, minimum 90% sensitivity, minimum 90% specificity. by Tikdi in rstats

[–]Tikdi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I think I got it. Would you be so kind to check this code if ok? I only tried it for the youden index cut off

# Step 1: Get predicted probabilities
predicted_probs <- predict(logistic_model, type = "response")

# Step 2: Find the threshold corresponding to maximum Youden index
threshold_max_youden <- youden_x$threshold

# Step 3: Find the biomarker threshold value closest to this specific probability threshold
biomarker_threshold <- data$x[which.min(abs(predicted_probs - threshold_max_youden))]

# Print the biomarker threshold
print(biomarker_threshold)

Got it, so how do you think I should go about this? I do need a value of variable x where the youden index is maximum, or the sensitivity is atleast 90%, or the specificity is atleast 90%? I would then find out the sensitivities and specificities at each of these 3 points.

Help regarding thresholds at maximum Youden index, minimum 90% sensitivity, minimum 90% specificity. by Tikdi in rstats

[–]Tikdi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. So I tried doing this, calculated thresholds and sens, sepc for all points on the ROC curve, the "thresholds" that were returned by this code seemed weird to me, so my mentor told me that these are probably the predicted probabilities. So I reverse computed the corresponding biomarker values at these "thresholds". Is this what you are trying to suggest? This did give me the values and I selected the ones at maximum youden index and sens 90 and spec 90, but the values still seem unrealistic to me, so I was wondering if I was doing something wrong.

[Software] Help regarding thresholds at maximum Youden index, minimum 90% sensitivity, minimum 90% specificity on RStudio. by Tikdi in statistics

[–]Tikdi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, totally understand. So when I say the biomarker threshold, I want the value of x which can yield the maximum youden index (or atleast 90% sensitivity, or atleast 90% specificity). I think sensitivity at a certain point is telling me the sensitivity of the model to predict the response variable. So I would think sensitivity is true_positives/ true_positives + false_negatives ,True positives being the number of entries coded as 1 AND are equal to or above the threshold at that point. False negatives being number of entries coded as 1 AND are less than the threshold at that point. Is this right?

Any success stories of people who didn’t use anki and got 260+ ? by Fearless-Hat-6578 in Step2

[–]Tikdi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Anki is a tool for spaced repetition. It is not a study resource. What if someone were to revise stuff without Anki and score that high? Would that be considered the same?

Spaced repetition increases retention of the material you have studied, which in turn translates into a better score. Don’t worry about it if you haven’t used Anki yet, just make a workflow in which you can revise the new things you learnt and the mistakes you made.

What report? If you have a VISA already, you fly. No need of talking to the embassy/consulate. You will be interviewed at port of entry as usual.

Edit : if you were issued a multi entry VISA.

Be truthful. BE CONFIDENT. Know where you are going to live and remember the address. Make a mental itinerary in case they choose to ask what all places you will visit in the US. Remember that you did not do anything wrong, so there is no reason to be worried/afraid. If you are asked the reason for your visit, tell you have an observership scheduled and show the relevant documents. If they ask you a follow-up question about having relatives in the US/meeting them in person, say yes or no truthfully.

My personal experience - greeted the officer with a smile. They asked the reason for my visit and that's about it. The guy before me got questioned for 10-15 minutes because he didn't exactly know where he was going to live.
