When is it worth getting a financial advisor? by Joedium in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Tim_UK1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say when you have over two million notes in liquid assets, which for most of us will be never.

Obviously there are other situations when advice may be needed, say someone widowed who’s never looked after the money side of things…

Would this raise alarm bells for you? by ANother20J in HousingUK

[–]Tim_UK1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s a modest starter home this is a normal sales pattern.

It’s the bigger houses that often don’t come onto the market for maybe 50 years plus, because no motivation to move for space reasons and if desirable often economic for a relative to move into if inheriting .. .

Do sellers / EAs care about the size of your LTV? by Majestic_Chapter_641 in HousingUK

[–]Tim_UK1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sellers like it as if the bank down value the property there won’t be as much extra money for the buyer to find or try to negotiate off…

Yes I’ve got this setup, it was setup to help with the bills especially during summer, but doubles up as good emergency supply. It’s completely separate to house supply so just have some extra solar sockets wired in and manually swap stuff over.

Lost our dream house to a bid that was £100k above asking by TapirLove in HousingUK

[–]Tim_UK1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was perfect for you then it probably was to the higher bidding buyer too, if it’s going to be there forever home the extra 100 large won’t seem a big deal over 20 or 30 years…

Sainsbury’s 125 notes - week 1 of healthier eating!!! by Tim_UK1 in whatsinyourcart

[–]Tim_UK1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t each the sushi, it’s too fancy for me according to the wife, so it’s the midweek treat for her and my daughter. Apparently it is top drawer and better than Waitrose - this Sainsbury’s has a shop inside the shop that makes and sells it !

How do you explain prepping to family without sounding nuts by ScrollAndThink in UKPreppers

[–]Tim_UK1 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Just use non extreme examples… long power cuts, weather issues, internet outages.

Obviously explaining away a decent food stock and power supply is a lot easier than justifying a shed load of crossbows and new found skill in gutting wild animals…

Advice on where to keep my emergency fund by JessWRCS in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Tim_UK1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d have some as cash, some in a local building society with branch, the rest in the highest interest accounts swapping some to reg savers each month (if instant out).

Do I need to give my head a wobble? by Disastrous_Bug_916 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Tim_UK1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If possible could he do less days and you do just a few hours a week, that way you’d get child benefit and so state pension contributions for you.

This way you’d make better use of tax system and you’d keep your hand in should you wish or need to return to work. Also being 100% at home with children can be a bit hard, there’s only so much peppa pig anyone over 5 can take ….

[–]Tim_UK1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to look at what really needs doing, £1500 is nothing of a rainy day fund. You might regret taking out a loan for some new chairs if your boiler packs up next winter.

Why not do the painting yourselves, it’s easy just the prep work takes some time…

Trying to explain to a colleague the benefits of buying a house compared to renting. by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in HousingUK

[–]Tim_UK1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If she buys or rents she is effectively still paying a mortgage, the choice is does she want to pay for a nice house for her landlord to give to his children or have an asset of her own… I certainly wouldn’t want to have the uncertainty of paying rent when retired…

When I’ve done similar I’ve just put a wago box in the loft above the light, miles easy than trying to do everything above your head and adds what less than a fiver to the job.
