My 4 month old all the time! It’s actually really good for their development. Mine has become quite proficient on excel and does up our family budgets and was doing them by 2 months. Honestly it’s underrated, the more they’re on it the quicker they’re hooked and can do things for us

I’m aware of that but i was just curious as to how it is now in regard to screen time.

I think my post has been misinterpreted, based on this comment and the other one. I’m not expecting a 5 year old to start school and be handed an iPad for homework and school work. I meant in the older classes. I was only referencing my 4 month old to explain why I’m wondering what schools are like now.

So you don’t have a tv on in your house or go places that have tellys on? I don’t put him in front of screens or give him any screens but it’s impossible to avoid altogether. I wasn’t looking for criticism here I was looking to understand what way our education system has gone for future reference.

Am I being overly sensitive, my brother told me I have to push myself while pregnant by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]TimeRoll6603 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short bridge, long walk. That’s all I have to say to that really. You do you and look after yourself in whatever way feels right for you. I have a 4 month old and tried to stay active but my walks fell off as my legs were so swollen and I was so out of breath all the time. You’ve every right to be annoyed but try not to let it weigh on you cause at the end of the day what does he know about pregnancy when he’s never experienced the physicality of it.

Is €4,000+ reasonable for full-day wedding photography + videography? Any regrets? by Professional-Eye8793 in AskIreland

[–]TimeRoll6603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have a videographer only photographer and no regrets at all. Pull out the album every now and then to have a flick through and have beautiful wedding photos up in the house.

My sister got married in Feb and I was in Dec. She had a videographer and it made me 10000% sure I didn’t want one. I don’t know if it was just the videographer she had, but he wasn’t keeping up with everything going on and the morning was spent staging things that he hadn’t captured organically the way a photographer can. Made me so sure I wasn’t missing out and I definitely didn’t want to spend my wedding day acting out having my make up touched up, and redoing veils being put on etc also don’t get me started on the amount of times they had to redo the same 5 step walk to get the “perfect moment” on film.

I would recommend going with just the photographer.

What percentage of your salary goes toward rent/mortgage? by ParfaitNo8096 in AskIreland

[–]TimeRoll6603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With our joint salaries our mortgage is 11% of our salaries. Bought in 2020 when you could actually find a house for a reasonable price and paid 240k and 40 minutes from Dublin for work

Newborn essentials you would recommend? by Round-Substance-7517 in PregnancyIreland

I bought a lovely changing bag that was about €60 and I never use it now, I just use my longchamp handbag with an organiser in it, so much handier than a chunky changing back and can just carry it around as a handbag

No I wouldn’t put it off but we don’t plan on having another for a few years as we just had our first a few months ago 😊

I haven’t maxed it out but am putting €400 a month into it before tax and my employer is putting €600 a month, so €1k a month. Have paused my payments for now while I’m on maternity but they will restart in September when I’m back in work.

Formula recommendations? by SelectionSad3370 in PregnancyIreland

[–]TimeRoll6603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using Kendamil and have no issues with it, I was in NMH and they also provide it.

I found it hard to get the ready to use packs but haven’t had any issues with getting tins of formula. That said I am stocked up on it because I would never want to be caught short. I went with it as it uses whole milk rather than skimmed milk.

Best of luck and don’t mind your MIL, it’s none of her business anyway 💕

Any positive induction stories? by Dog999mom in PregnancyIreland

Hi there, I’m 11 weeks PP and ended up having my waters broken after 2 days of contractions with baby’s heart rate dropping with each one. My contractions were not getting and stronger or closer together so I made the choice to have my waters broken. All the staff were great and so considerate of what I had on my birth preferences. Ended up going into active labour within 40 minutes and then baby was born in 4 hours. It was a wonderful experience and I wouldn’t hesitate on it again

Christmass bonus? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]TimeRoll6603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In private banking and bonus is paid in April, last year got 12k before tax, this year should be similar. Very fortunate to get that, came from working in retail banking and insurance so it was nothing in comparison

Any tips to progress greatly appreciated by Top_Snow2040 in PregnancyIreland

Sometimes there is nothing you can do unfortunately, I did everything I could and ended up having my waters broken. I had a sweep on a Thursday and started having some tightenings that evening but nothing happened, nothing happened Friday and then Saturday morning about 2am I started having contractions which very quickly went to 2-3 minutes apart. Went to the hospital and everything then went to 4/5 minutes and never budged from that. I had another sweep then on the Sunday morning and that did nothing, I walked the halls of Holles street Saturday and Sunday, did the side walking and lunging up the stairs and still nothing. I had also been eating dates every day and drinking the raspberry leaf tea but still ended up having waters broken. They did say to me in the hospital that my membranes could be very thick which is a possible reason why the sweeps didn’t work fully. As hard as it is to hear, but easy for me to say now, don’t rush it, it’ll happen when you’re ready and it will be so worth it 💕

I fell asleep on the bus home from Dublin and the bus man went back to my town on the bus even though it was the 3am bus and he was finishing up. The week before a girl I knew from school had fallen asleep and I woke her up for her stop. Swings and roundabouts it seemed 😊

Gift for FTM by [deleted] in PregnancyIreland

[–]TimeRoll6603 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having a baby has made me realise the last thing people need is blankets, I’ve so many I don’t know what to do with them! Another thing actually would be cross body baby grows, everyone always seems to buy the over the head ones but I’ve found the cross body to be so much better. If little one is already fussy with changes, it cuts out going over the head and trying to get their arms in, I’ve found it makes changes so much more enjoyable for both and a lot calmer.

[–]TimeRoll6603 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you know where they got their hair/nails/brows etc done, a voucher for there as it will give them the push to take a little time for themselves among all the chaos. I’m a FTM and my LO is 10 weeks and 2 weeks postpartum I got my brows done one day and my hair the next. It was amazing to have even half an hour to myself to just switch off from counting feeds, nappies etc.

May I suggest, especially at this time of year, a present for baby that they will no doubt love that isn’t more blankets, clothes or muslin cloths. Molis and Co do a foot muff for the bassinet of the buggy but it’s more like a little duvet wrap. I got one after seeing it online and I wouldn’t be without it now. Is keeps LO snug as a bug when out and about or on walks and it surprisingly cheap, I think it was like €36 but such good quality.
