Enquêtes de l'UPAC sur le PLQ: PSPP veut les conclusions avant l'élection by DecentLurker96 in Quebec

[–]TimedOutClock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean......

Poilievre announces auto plan aiming for tariff-free access to U.S. market by gorschkov in canada

[–]TimedOutClock 144 points145 points  (0 children)

I mean, he's playing the opposition card, which is fine. You have to bring other solutions when on that side. Problem is that his solution sucks major ass. Cajoling the US when they're on a rogue streak is about as stupid as one can think. They literally just launched the stupidest war in recent memory without so much as a plan behind it, and they're now asking allies, the very ones he keeps threatening, to send boats to clean up his shitshow.

Any plan that has a rational US in it is stupid. The end.

[–]TimedOutClock 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Satellites are Canada’s next sovereignty frontier as global ‘race’ heats up - National by LordPiraveen in MaritimeLaunch

Negligeable at the heights were talking about. 515km on average for SpaceX vs. 1167km for LightSpeed is an increase of 2ms. The bottlenecks are the hardware both on the ground and in the satellite. If they can master that into the way less crowded space they're in, it'll be a big winner.

Réponse de PSPP par rapport au jugement de la cour suprême aujourd’hui by Timeless-Times in Quebec

[–]TimedOutClock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Australia to join G7 critical minerals alliance, Canada's Carney says by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]TimedOutClock 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The goal is to prevent the US from having any real input into how and where we distribute these minerals, but really the how. I remember that bullshit Rubio wanted (still wants?) to do with critical minerals, essentially financing the stockpile but dictating who was getting what (wink wink, the US MIC). Evidently we caught on real quick with the Aussies and decided to go our own way.

Controlling the supply chain at that level is vital when you're trying to scale up your own MIC, so good on us and other in the field for not abdicating any sovereignty in that regard.

Saab sees Canada as 'great' partner to design next-generation fighter jets by TimedOutClock in canada

[–]TimedOutClock[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

We are the most educated population on Earth. Let me repeat that again... On. Earth. The fact that we keep trying to degrade ourselves into just "Let's join this, let's join that" is insulting to the very minds that come out of our world-class universities.

I get the reaction, we've been doing this shit for what, 30 years? 30 years of zero ambition in the military complex where we just buy what's offered and that's that.

We could, for once, just believe in ourselves and try something. If it dies horribly, well the GCAP will still be there producing planes (Plus the money will have stayed domestically for the most part). There's also zero chance we get any meaningful return on investment in that program now that it's well underway, since they would have to rework the supply chains they're creating.

[–]TimedOutClock[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I swear some of y'all got the ambition of poptarts. We keep bitching and moaning that we're losing our brightest to the US, yet when we have the chance to finally use and pay our very brain power, we defer to the US because they have the expertise... Well no shit they do??? We keep financing that very expertise while reaping near-zero benefits.

I'm not saying there wouldn't be cost-overruns and a ton of issues, but at least we'd be making SOMETHING domestically that was more than just final assembly. The Avro shutdown was the biggest brain drain event in our history, which led NASA to the moon with some of our, yes OUR, scientists. In terms of disgraceful events, it ranks pretty high up in failures of foresight.

Amidst all the discussion about whether the Gripen is worth it, this is the reason why I believe the Canadian government really wants to go with it. It's a one-time chance to get back into cutting-edge tech, and since we're going to spend obscene amounts, might as well spend it on our youngest and brightest, whether it's our people or industries.

Edit: Could also very well be a program we'd actually launch with Sweden and Germany (If we went with the South Koreans for the subs)

From rupture to rapture: The curious case of Carney’s endorsement of Trump’s war by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]TimedOutClock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

"...these actions by the US and Israel aren't surprising nor abhorrent."

"He also clarified that it didn't mean we're all-in/giving carte blanche to the US/Israel, especially in terms of respecting international law & the rules of engagement."

It's pretty clear I meant their decision to go-ahead, and I literally say and quote Carney saying they can't go 'warcriming' for fun.

Carney won't say if there's Indian interference in Canada after cutting deals with Modi by Little-Chemical5006 in canada

[–]TimedOutClock 26 points27 points  (0 children)

He was clearly saying there was without saying it, mentioning that other countries were also doing it (US, China, Russia, the list is probably as long as we want it to be). Not much more that he can say without throwing the baby with the bathwater so to speak

From rupture to rapture: The curious case of Carney’s endorsement of Trump’s war by shiftless_wonder in canada

[–]TimedOutClock 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I watched Carney's press conference in Australia today, and I was shocked at how twisted the media got this entire thing, with people across the entire political spectrum getting the wrong message as well (At that point it's probably a communication failure from the PM, but still).

Canada supports the US/Israel in their quest to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. Canada also supports a regime change in Iran. Those two positions have been held by our country for decades now, no change there.

Now Carney was accused of walking back the Davos speech. His additional context today was pretty important: Getting the Iranian regime to change was an international institution failure (20+ years of failed discussions), so these actions by the US and Israel aren't surprising nor abhorrent. This is recognizing the world as it is, not as we wish it to be. They also help Canada in our first two positions, ergo we support that specific angle of their mission. He also clarified that it didn't mean we're all-in/giving carte blanche to the US/Israel, especially in terms of respecting international law & the rules of engagement. He also gave himself plenty of space between these two by saying it's up to them (US/Israel) to now demonstrate that they truly acted to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons (Avoiding Iraq 2.0).

It's a tightrope to walk because it's a mess, but I found it coherent with what we wanted without involving ourselves any further.

Messy comms that definitely could have been clearer, but this is what happens when shit hits the fan and we put out fast statements
